It's been open since I bought it, never been able to lock it due to the key not turning.

Not a big deal, as I store stuff in there and it's handy to be able to flip down whenever..but would be nice to be able to lock it when some of my more, er, boisterous friends come over.

I don't know how, but some people really yank down on arcade sticks and send the whole CP lifting up on the hinge!

The fcuk? Said folk shouldn't be allowed near your cab, locked cp or not! Let them at the PS2 and a copy of Buzz or something. :pac:

Maybe your cp locks were replaced and just require different keys? Key not turning on my cab means I'm using the wrong key (hence the poxy labels I had to create).

In an old cab that has an older type of psu that powers the screen as well as the jamma loom...how does one power up the monitor with a replacement newer type psu...one of these say:

When the original is something like this - http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l616/colecomeister/IMG_1115.jpg

What on earth is going on there...a new type psu & a classic type together is it?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

    Ive been wondering this too.

Can you either, have both psu's inside, one powering the board the other the monitor? or rip out the old and hook everything up to the new?

I dunno, ive two old cocktail tables, i keep changing my mind about ripping out everything old and wiring up new, or trying to fix the old wiring and get them going.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,076 ✭✭✭safetyboy

yeah its an old poker machine convert i was given with a spiderman PCB in it. been trying to fix it up for about a year now, just fitted a new jamma loom and CP

So it would appear some monitors need a specific type of psu & can't be powered by standard newer type psu's?

a lot of old hantarex had a dual power supply that powered the monitor and the jamma setup.

The new power supply will work on your jamma loom no problem, find out what type of monitor you have google the chassis and find its power requirements.

Id say you will need a step down transformer for the monitor 220\110V you may want to put a power filtration unit in between two power supplies

Anyone know what the typical draw on electricity/wattage/kWh is for a 29" candy cab?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

    Egret3 100watts according to http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Taito_Egret_3
    Egret2 125watts

There might also be a metal plate on the front of the cab under the CP that tells you. There is on mine anyway.

Well, got my cab back working again.
Very odd few weeks, with video cards confirmed as running a 15Khz monitor simply refused when part of the pc setup I have.
    No idea what's going on.
Unimarc returned a new ArcadeVGA card to me and that was fitted this evening and seems to run a treat, I still have a faint line down the centre of the screen that I can't shift but you barely notice during gameplay so I'll get over it!
Anyways, nice to have it running again and I think I'm going to leave the tinkering alone for a while, just enjoy it as it is.
Probably replace the PC with something more pokey before Christmas.

Anyone ever try out the enhanced scanline/CRT post processing effects in MAME?

They really look the business. Not only does it give scanlines, it 'curves' the image to the shape of a CRT and actually does look like a CRT on your screen.

Paste this into your MAME.ini file under post processing effects to give it a go. Tends to look better for vertical games than horizontal.

I got a 0.147 no nag version from a nice chap on here. Has supported everything I've thrown at it, Ibara, Futari, Ketsui, Dangon, Deathsmiles..all run grand.

If that nice chap wants to pm me I'd be very grateful
Ive never been able to compile one with no nag!

    Damn it!

So I stuck in Metal Slug X this evening. Used to play it a lot. Never really bothered with scoring in this one before.

First go, got a score that put me at number 4 on Twin Galaxies (arcade).

Nothing stellar, but not shabby. First two levels, every POW saved, no lives lost, no vehicles lost.

    score_zpsc1cd9a41.jpg

Grand I think, I'll set the camera up and see if I can improve my score while recording it.

Two tries, (30 minutes of film footage later) - nope! Lost a life each attempt on the second level boss. Meaning all my POWs were lost.

Balls! Reckon Twin Galaxies will believe my screenshot is legit? :D

I think I'll stick this one out. It's a lot easier to get a high score than Metal Slug 1.

On the plus side, I just noticed how much nicer you can make scanline pics with a tripod. Will have to rig up my decent camera sometime and take some snaps (these were with a cheapo Canon. My Nikon doesn't record video)

Lovely pic that. Recording yourself playing makes it harder alright, pressure of an audience and all that. :)

Tell me about it, I don't know how you made that Raiden video you posted a little while ago!

I usually swear a blue streak when I play. Perhaps subduing that for the video is what threw me off :D
