Very cool dude. So that's just our own flv or mp4 file that you made yourself and pointed hyperspin to?

You were right Andrew76, the MS mounting plate fit the control panel perfectly.

Turns out I didn't need to daisy chain the ground. Just had to connect it to one of them and it ground the whole stick. Then was just a matter of syncing up the directions with the other coloured wires. Was a bit of a pain to work it out, but got there in the end.

Absolute mess of wires at the moment, but it works! :D

Done, Ibara mounted on the other PCB holder. Gotta love small PCBs, Mercs was previously on the ground and it took up the whole space.

I think I'll move the PSU further over to the right, it's taking up far too much space in the middle.

Ideally I'd love to try and sort out some sort of PCB selector system and put a few games in at once.

Nicely done dude. Ibara looks sweet. Lol you'd almost feel short changed with those tiny boards for the money you pay, until you turn them on ofc.

A few small cable ties would tidy that up a bit. The wiring for the buttons and sticks - do they feed all the way back to the jamma harness or are there amp male/female style plugs inbetween? If there are plugs inbetween then it might be a nice little project to make up new wiring yourself sometime, or get FrancoB specials. I did both once upon a time. :)

Heh, yeah I remember the first time I saw a cave board in your house - 'is that it?!' was the first thing which came to mind. Tiny little things so they are. Shame more boards can't be the same size, would make my sitting room look a lot less like a PCB storage facility :D

There are plugs in between indeed. So did you create a new wiring setup for the plug > stick buttons? Not a bad idea! Would definitely clean up the mess.

I prefer woody cabs usually, but there is something about that Jaleco cab, it is beautiful!

For me it's now all about old candy cabs. Late 80s-early 90s. They're kinda like full metal wood cabs or something :)

Swapped out the graphics card for a graphics card that I got off adverts. It's a card that was a very decent gamer's card about three or four years ago. Gets about 60fps in both Street Fighter IV and Sonic Generations (which I'm very happy about).

Not bad for an arcade cab! :-)

By the way this Thursday in Lidl:
    http://www.lidl.ie/cps/rde/xchg/SID-939BF64E-5ED7BBA2/lidl_ri_ie/hs.xsl/index_32265.htm

I always pick up these sets when they're on the go... I'm constantly rewiring and tidying stuff behind my TV unit etc. Came in very handy for the arcade cab too.

Knackered now and sweating like a pig but it was well worth it. Some pics of today's adventures down below:

The back panel still has to be spray painted (it's spitting rain every so often out here so I'm holding off for today) but at least that's done now. Also I can stress test it now to make sure that the airflow is ok and that the unit isn't going to overheat.

Not bad for two hour's work. ****ing knackard... and now I have to clean up. :-(

A short video of Street Fighter 2 CE on my cab running through Mame and Hyperspin.
Apologies for the crappy sound and occasional blur-o-vision. Still need to hook the sound up through the cab speakers.

For those that have been following my build (nobody... I post these for myself really) as the cab is nearing completion I've given it a new home in our hall.

Rehoming it had absolutely nothing to do with my girlfriend complaining that she's lost the use of our kitchen table for the past month or so. Nothing at all.

    Aherm anyway here she is:
    258537.jpg

For a home build it's not bad for a poor man's arcade setup.

Fellow cab builders, can you give me any tips on what the best way to mount monitor plexiglass is?

    Thanks.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

I just cut two pieces of wood, screwed to the inside of the cab about about half an inch in from the front on either side, then cut the plexi to shape and placed it in so it sat on these two pieces. I had black cardboard cut to shape as a bezel, so that was sandwiched between the plexi and these two pieces of wood so you couldnt see them anyways.

Should be a pic in here somewhere were you can see what i mean.. cant see the pics in work to find it for you because they are blocked in work.

Grand thanks for the tip. I have the daunting feeling that I got my measurments off and will need to take the bartop almost completely apart in order to bring the monitor mount back an inch or so... :-/

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,216 ✭✭✭MrVestek

So for any of those interested I ordered some GameGemCDRs from Groovey Game Gear as I didn't just want to add extra buttons to the cab for coin input. I had originally thought that the controller for the buttons that I had purchased had a shifted key function but apparently not.

Anyway had to tap the PSU for 5v per button, here's some extremelly totally safe wiring right here:

    Here's the finished product:
    1013923_10201579357108562_1760925126_n.jpg

The pictures don't do it justice, cameras have a hard time photographing these things but they are beautiful to look at and really seem to give the cab that arcade feel.

Man, once the bezel is done that's going to look great, well done.
Just to throw in an extra wrinkle....
Can you set it up so the screen in rotatable?
    Nice for shmups!

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,216 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Is there much point in rotating a 4:3 screen though?

All vertical arcade monitors are rotated 4:3 ;)

    yes yes yes yes

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,216 ✭✭✭MrVestek

I could always put it on a rotatable VESA bracket, not hugely into shmups though so I can't see myself doing it any time soon.

I might just rotate it via mame and put up with the borders on either side. Don't kill me :-)

Definitely fit the bracket if you can...and then get into shmups ;)

Loads of non shump vert games,
    pac-man,donkey kong etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,216 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Just had a look there... not enough clearance for a bracket of that type.

You'll just have to leave the monitor permanently vertical so :D

Build a second one for vertical only stuff :)
