Hi all does anyone have any tips for a leaky peg site, my son is 10 years old and has CP his peg has been leaking for about a year and his tummy is red raw and very itchy, the peg has been changed a number of times and he is now at the biggest size but it still leaks I have tried all kinds of dressing and creams but as the stomach acid keeps coming out I can't seem to get on top of the rash he is also on zoton to try and keep down the acid plus I give him milk of magnesia but nothing seems to work.
Any tips or advice would be great. I guess it is a bit like bad nappy rash so if you found a good cure for that I will give it a go.

    Thanks

Hi, my son also has a peg and cp. His is very profound so I don't know if it itches but when his gets sore I use whatever I have for nappy rash be it sudocream / caldescene / morhulin etc. Itchy sounds like fungal so canestan thrush cream is super, stops the itching straight away. I'm no good on leakage that sounds very excessive, my sons occasionally will stain his vest but crusts everyday. Anti fungal powder is also excellent like the athletes foot ones just don't let it get inside the site! Good luck :)

    Hi Fergal.
Would it be possible to contact the surgical team who inserted the peg?
Some hospitals have Stoma nurses/specialist peg nurse.
It is possible to put a stomadhesive barrier (paste or wafer)on skin to protect it- this specialist nurse should be able to advise.
    (There's a chance,I suppose,you've already asked their advice,if so,apologies).
If this fails,a dermatologist would be best bet to advise- no-one can safely give advice without seeing skin.Alas, problem will recur if leak continues.
    Sorry,best wishes.

Thanks for the replies, I was back in Temple street last week with him and they don't seem to be too worried about it saying that they are prone to leak and his was not as bad as some they see it all depends on the kids skin type and the amount of acid they produce. I have used a spray skin "cavilon" but it soon gets washed off also nappy cream and E45 and a number of others with no luck I guess I just hoped that someone might have gone through this and had a magic cure, I feel sometimes the parents of kids like these know more than doctors and nurses will ever know just by trial and error and dealing with it on a daily basis.
    Thanks again,
    Yours hopefully :)
