Airtricity wants to me to pay a 300 euro deposit to be their customer. Does anyone know if ESB has such a requirement?

This is from the ESB website:

    Information for new customers

New customers are required to either set up a Direct Debit for their account, or pay a €300 deposit.
We encourage you to set up a Direct Debit and avoid paying the €300 deposit. If you do not choose to do so, the €300 deposit must be paid within 10 working days of moving into your new home.

So you'll need to set up a Direct Debit with them to loose the deposit. We have a direct debit with Airtricity and we didn't need a deposit not sure if that's the same any more though. Bord Gas require a deposit on both methods of payment. Not sure about flogas.. but you get it back in the end anyway or after a certain period of time as long as there is a good credit history.

On a side note Airtricity billing is a joke, I'd advise anyone against them

    Hi Robdude

As wild_cat says, a deposit is only required if the customer making the switch to ESB Electric Ireland does not opt to pay by direct debit.

With direct debit, the customer is advised of the balance due 14 days in advance of payment collection. Direct debit also entitles the customer to a discount. Online billing (receiving the statement by email) entitles the customer to a further discount. And ESB Electric Ireland supplies gas also, so opting for dual fuel entitles the customer to a further discount again.

    More info here.

    Regards,
    Una

Xterminator - this thread is for discussing desposits. Nothing else.
