I have to admit, I don't know an awful lot about Japanese fashion but I'm hoping to learn! All I know is that Japanese girls can pull off some of the most outrageous outfits - and make them look so damn cool!

This thread is for the discussion of all aspects of Japanese fashion :)

I was reading a book recently about Japanese School Girls (not as pervy as it sounds :P) and they spoke about " Nanchatte seifuku" or "just kidding uniforms". These are school uniform style clothes that girls can wear that aren't their actual school uniform. The nanchatte seifuku seem to be becoming more popular and allow girls more freedom with the style of uniform they wear - and even allows girls who are finished school to wear the iconic uniforms.

It sounds a little strange - and I can't imagine it ever happening here - but uniforms can be fashionable in Japan, it seems. Some of them are pretty damn cute too:

There are even shops that specialise in selling nanchatte seifuku!

Pink and white are stylish colours in Japan.

    I love lolita style clothing but don't really have the confidence to wear much of it ;_;

These kimonos are just so cute though, I'd love one!

Let's not forget Japanese fashion for lads. The one on the left is a bit OTT, but the one on the right looks cool.

There's an awesome lolita fashion shop that attends most of the Irish cons. They're called DreamWear and have some adorable accessories and outfits. I've linked their FB page there and they have a site here but it seems to still be in production. Only some of their products are featured there but if anyone is ever attending an anime con in Dublin, you should check them out :)

For girls, thigh high socks and short skirts. It's all about the kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiness.

    Rarely will show shoulders.

Guys, paddy hats are in this season apparently.

Speaking of girls uniforms ( thank **** I don't work in a high school O_o), the guys' winter wear is mega cool:

Pimpin! Plus they wear their class badges on the collar like the army or something.

I love Japanese fashion! I wish ireland had uniforms like them. Especially Limerick (I hate our girl uniforms)! What do you think of traditional japanese clothes? They're so beautiful...

Am just back form Japan and the whole lolita/goth/Harajuku girls thing is totally over. Talking to some of the Tokyo locals and they said fashion is more and more Western. Very plain stuff being worn all around. That pink and white comment is well on the money though.

The two girls Mimi and Fiona who run DreamWear are lovely and are very talented. I should check their stuff out as I would love to get back into wearing Lolita. I always loved Japanese fashion, it is very pretty some of it like from a fairytale.

    I love Gyaru/kogal

    That is quite depressing..:(

This is cool actually mixing Japanese with Western fashion.

It's not over though. It's still very popular. My friend only came back and she said it was as popular as ever.
