I am unsure how to address potential clients when I send emails to them. I do not know their names so saying Dear (their name) is not possible. What is the standard way?

'A chara' - standard in Ireland

    Or, 'Dear Sir or Madam'.

    Don't be spamming though!

It's an email he's sending, I'd lose that level of formality.

Find out their names and use them rather than using a generic term.

You need to call their receptionist or whoever and find out the name of the person you're emailing. You can then address them as "Hi XXX", or just "XXX".

If you're targeting so many potential clients that you don't have time to do this, you need to seriously question how well you're qualifying those prospects, and whether you're in fact spamming them.

Yes I did. But go find out their names, it's not that difficult if you're serious about it. Sir/Madam emails are the last thing I'll read.

And while you are ringing to find out their names, you can get opt-in permission to email bypassing any spam issues and assisting targeting/conversion by filtering out wastage.
