Delighted MK are back on top again, truely deserve it with the excellent installment this year. Not at all surprised Portal 2 is the overall winner either. And Skyrim being the One to Watch i think shows that people in general are not sheep and automatically go for MW3/BF3.

Best Fighting Game

■Mortal Kombat (2011)

A fighting title so shallow, though deeper than its predecessors, it has been proven to be beatable with one's toes.

It's weird that Rockband 3 got a nod, considering Activision just about managed to take the entire genre out with
Guitar Hero's collapse.

Also, it's indicative of the market shift how all the "interesting" games are in the "Downloadable" section.

Very true. Effectively a person would have to have played all of the games in a given category before being able to cast a fair judgement on which is best.

In place of a public vote, how else do you guys think awards should be judged?

Except that wouldn't be fair, really, seeing as personal bias would cloud everything anyway.

You could go with a panel of 'experts' - but see the wailing and gnashing of teeth that follows every Oscars night for the drawbacks to that.

So, fuck it - might as well just be a public vote.
It's about as 'fair' as any other system and it'll all lead to the same end result - bellyaching and people insisting the winner of any category was in no way as good as some obscure niche game they're name checking for the hell of it.

Most people choose Link, the Hero of Time, then go on an Action Adventure.
