people are incredibly naive. GTA is a satire on American culture, always has been, always will be. It's virtually guaranteed to be Vice City or a city from San Andreas.

You do know that they had a game based in London before right?

I'd spend too much time visiting my house if it was Dublin haha.

I'd settle on a London guess, only I think it's too far-fetched for Rockstar to bring the franchise out of the USA.

It's happened before (back when the franchise was a game I looked forward to playing), why not happen again?

The GTA development team is also from Scotland so it's not like they don't know anything about the UK.

I'd actually quite like if it was in London but I don't think it will be. It's been far too successful with just US cities so why change a good thing? From what I remember reading (I was quite young) when GTA London came out donkeys years ago I don't think it done well in the States.

Sales of the original GTA and its expansions (London being one) were roughly 1 million units. The games were top down 2-d affairs with pretty short developement times and costs. A lot of risks could be taken.

Sales of GTA IV were roughly 24 million units - development time and development cost is much greater, and the money to be had is much greater. The sort of risk involved in moving the series to London, Paris or somewhere else is too great these days.

If I recall correctly, London was just an add-on pack to GTA, (so for Playstation owners, you needed to have the original game, and you could buy London cheaper than the cost of a regular game).

Ye guys complaining about driving on the other side of the road, or language barriers or such, have to remember they don't use actual cities. They take a city and turn it into their own made-up city, so I'm sure they'd have no problem having the roads and language the same. It's just the scenery that would make for a good change.

As I say, I don't see it leaving the US, myself, but there's a good argument for why it could be done.

I enjoyed Libery City in IV, and I thought it was great to be able to skid around the place and get chased through the streets and such (though I do think that the streets always seemed a little bare, traffic-wise. They could have done better there, by having more cars spawning at the same time).

So I do think that the game needs a bit of hustle and bustle, but the empty open areas were fantastic too.

I was actually just looking at the San Andreas map on a Google search the other day, and it's crazy how much it entails. It quite literally has everything you could want.

    http://myepsilon.org/maps/gtasa_2player_map.jpg

Endless stretches of motorway, country, desert, urban neighbourhoods, bustling city, multiple airports (so you can actually fly yourself from one city to the other), little rural towns, beaches, mountain, docks... Area 51...

and that's just within the map. Then there's all the other stuff, such as buying clothes, hitting the gym, modifying your car (forever trying to make an A-Team van), trucks and trailers, ability to tow cars, monster trucks, etc.

I doubt they'd get all of that done on the GTA IV graphical end, as i'd say there's just too much involved, but they were clearly working hard on a fun aspect to the game and having a lot to do. One day you could turn it on and obey the rules of the road and carefully and slowly drive your articulated truck from one little factory to another. The next day you could tear through the countryside in a monster truck.

Variety is what they need, and i'm sure that's something they'll want to show us in the V advert (especially considering how well TBOGT went down with people).

I'm just rambling now. I wouldn't say the half of this post makes any sense, but still... I'm just looking forward to it quite a lot. :D Here's hoping for a November 3rd release!

I agree, as san andreas was one excellent game and had an enormous map, best GTA game i have played so far.

the amount of things you could do in this game was just astonishing, we need a large game like this but they keep focusing on the graphics and this takes from good gameplay. i'd rather a really well made game with a huge map than a weak story and good graphics.

The "five" font is virtually the exact same as the font used on US dollars. The font on the £ notes isn't as close and its nothing like anything from the Euro.

That alone pretty much confirms a US location.

Also, don't forget back in March there was this casting call discovered for voice actors.
Matthew: (18-25 Male United States) - A liberal young male who believes in a conspiracy made by republicans to undermine America.

Jose: (30-40 Male United States) - A white creepy man who thinks that technology is a poison against the wilderness.

James Pedeaston: (40-45 Male United States) - A man-boy love activist who just got released from an Indonesian prison.

Samantha: (20-25 Female United States) - A young female obsessed with sex parties, always dreaming of being a Hollywood celebrity.

Anthony: (10-15 Male United States) - A young, fast-talking boy fighting for the right of young boys to drink alcohol and have sex.

    http://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/03/30/rockstar-looking-for-gta-v-voice-actors/

I think we'll either see a real/fictional LA/Hollywood or a fictional Washington DC as the setting.

I remember in gta3 on the radio they mentioned a place called carcer city which was ment to be close to liberty city. Its the only other city ever mentioned in the games beside vice city and san andreas. I think they used it as the setting in manhunt. Wonder if they would use it in a gta game.

San Andreas was so class. Looking at the map brings back a lot of memories like having dogfights above area 52 in the fighter jet, or the bi-plane with just machine guns if you were feeling brave.
Going to the top of the sky-scraper in Los Santos and spawning a quad-bike, then flinging yourself off the top. Playing chicken with a train while on a bicycle. Getting into debt to the casinos in Las Venturas and then getting some unfriendly reminders from the mafia. Looking for Bigfoot. Beating people up with a dildo.

    What a game.

The only money I know of that Microsoft paid to Rockstar is the $75 million just so Rockstar wouldn't release GTA IV on the PS3 only.

In any case, who do you think funded Rockstar up to GTA IV? If Sony see an opportunity to increase PS3 sales through another GTA franchise, then they'll happily contribute to it's development, and I doubt Rockstar would refuse, especially given their long history with Sony.

A lot has changed since 2008. Back then the Xbox was outselling the PS3 and it made commercial sense to promote GTA IV on the Xbox platform. But sales of PS3 are now virtually on par with the Xbox 360.

Also, the DVD format used by the Xbox has reached it's sell-by-date, and most new games are now shipping with at least 2 discs for the Xbox version, sometimes as much as 4, because of it's limited storage space. Whereas PS3 games are only shipping as 1 disc because of its use of blu-ray. We've just seen with the release of BF3 that HD textures are included as part of the standard installation on the PS3, but had to be given as an option on the Xbox. This is critical for a game like GTA which offers a huge map, with extremely detailed models and buildings.
eh, you are clearly misinformed. Did you have fun downloading those expansion packs...oh wait PS3 owners had to wait for like a year to buy them as a standalone game. You think that came for free? They didn't pay for the game to come out on Xbox, they paid for the DLC. 'Most games' don't come out on multiple disks either, about 5 have. I really wonder where you get your information. I am worried this one will come out on more than 1 disk but microsoft released an update that increased the capacity of their disks so it may not be an issue.

I dont know about this I loved every GTA up until 4 when the completly removed fun. Sure there was some funny radio stations but it was all to bland and boring. Used to be you could drive around fly around jet pack around spray paint bulk up to be a muscle bound hulk tattooed to the heavens but 4 had 4 clothes shops all with the worst cloths imaginable.

No doubt it will get great reviews because everyone has their nose up rocksars ass but it will be another bland repetitive game.

I think the clue is the logo says GTA Five V not GTA V.
This and the fact that Vice City followed Liberty City based GTA III means that we're clearly getting a Vice City based game FACT.*

    *Haven't read the thread.

    Woah...

Real world L.A. confirmed as the location?

Hasn't it been a case that R* uses fictional version of famous locations up until now? If they are using real world location names like Beverly Hills in the character description for casting then it probably means the setting for the game will be real world too.

    hmmm....

I wouldnt go that far. As its only a casting call, its giving a basic description of each role. So stating that a character owns a restraunt in BH is easier than using a fictional place name that the voice actor has no idea how to place.

I dunno, they could easily have worded it "owns a high class west coast restaurant". IMO, if the character descriptions for the casting call are based on whats in the script then I think there's a good chance L.A. will be the city.

Not long to wait to find out anyway. :pac:

Oftencasting calls won't use completely accurate descriptions. They're just to give the actors a guide to the character.

you just sound like someone who loved SA and hated everything in 4, i personally think 4 deserved all the praise it got, it was and still is the most detailed modern city ever created

I loved every one from the top downs, Vice city is my favorite actually, with san andreas being my second favorite.
I hated that there was no fun stuff in 4, well maybe the getting drunk was fun and Bruce was amazing but it was too dark and gritty for me. I like having fun and to me it wasnt fun.
The ballad of gay tony brought some to the table but the main game was boring and it was no fun just messing around in the city.

Looking forward to seeing what they do with this. Strong rumours for it to be set in Los Angelas which is great as I loved San Andreas.

If i were honest, I do think that IV is far and above the best GTA game they've made. Doesn't have as much stuff to do, but i still play it regularly (though I did that with every GTA). I'm more interested in just flying around the city, to be honest. I hate having to unlock it. The story, side missions, etc. are secondary to me. A decent vehicle arsenal and a good city are what I adore most.

Since getting my hands on GTA 1 so many years ago, I've been in love with the series.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about this?

    http://www.rockstarbase.com/v/

They got the announcement date right, and they're clearly in R*'s pocket, and with the announce date right, I'm going to assume the "5 guys, 5 bullets, 5 letters" and "204" actually mean something.

As far as I know, no GTA city has a 5 letter name, unless they go reality-based, then you've got Miami, but I'd be doubtful. 5 guys could mean 5 different characters to choose from (personally I don't like the idea of multiple main characters, but people have been asking for it for a while, so who knows). I don't get 5 bullets, though.

204 could be 2nd of April release date?

Could all be meaningless random crap, though. But Rockstar seem too on-the-ball for doing anything that doesn't tie in somewhere down the line.
