    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/10/25/starz-and-bbc-worldwide-productions-announce-new-original-series-%e2%80%9cda-vinci%e2%80%99s-demons%e2%80%9d/108430/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Tvbythenumbers+%28TVbytheNumbers%29

Written by David S. Goyer, co-writer of blockbuster and critically-acclaimed films Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and writer of the highly anticipated Man of Steel, the eight-episode series is scheduled to begin production in early-2012.

“Da Vinci's Demons" is David Goyer's historical fantasy, following the "untold" story of the world's greatest genius during his raucous youth in Renaissance Florence. Brash and brilliant, the twenty five-year old da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

David Goyer commented, "Da Vinci was the original Renaissance man -- a near-mythic figure that has world-wide appeal. After working with characters like Batman and Superman, it made a strange kind of sense for me to dive into the facts and legends swirling around his origins. This will be a show about secret histories, genius, madness, and all things profane. And I'm particularly excited that I get to do it on premium cable, where the story can be as dark and challenging and irreverent as it deserves to be. Starz and BBC Worldwide Productions have been nothing but supportive."

Zlotnik said, "David has reimagined some of the most iconic superheroes of all time, and is again building an extraordinary prism through which to rediscover the world’s greatest genius and most mysterious man. If modern day has Tony Stark, the Renaissance had da Vinci. This is a story we believe will captivate the imaginations of audiences around the world and is the first of what we expect to be many productions with our talented partners at BBC Worldwide Productions."

From a visual/production standpoint it looks lush and expensive: http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/03/da-vincis-demons-2-international-promos.html

Once Spartacus ends it might fill the Starz void.

Show kicks off tonight after the Spartacus series finale, it looks amazing!

very cocky that da vinci fella

Aye....i think that is intentional, as we go on i'm sure he'll start to go mad, and he'll struggle with his sexuality etc. - visually its hugely impressive.

I quite liked this. I'll watch a few more.

I quite liked it as well, has potential, I'll give it another couple of views anyway even if it's to get more of a look at the "Phoenix" :)

I can't be the only one who taught this was a croc. Ignoring the English accents, Da Vinci had a modern hair cut held in place by hair gel, and a leather biker style jacket. Maybe it's a spoiler but unless he builds a bleedin time machine at the end of the season and heads to the 21st century to get these things it just doesn't make any sense.

I don't need shows to be 100% true to life but at least make an attempt.

Haven't seen much beyond a trailer but is it a bit like a more sexed-up version of "Jack of All Trades"? Of course I might be the only person who watched it alongside "Cleopatra 2525".

I wasn't too impressed by it, I'll probably watch a few more episodes, but it just doesn't feel authentic, everything feels to fanciful.

I watched the first ~15 minutes and then turned it off and then watched it again with Mrs. Clareman, I thought it was far better to remove any pre-conceived notions of Da Vinci or the time period was the best way to go, I watched it almost like I was watching a cut scene in Assassin's Creed and found it quite enjoyable.

Awful bad, I tried to watch all of it but just couldn't sit through it all. It's all over the place cramming Da Vinci's entire life into his early 20s and then turning him into a pretty boy.

I won't be watching any more of it.

The 2nd episode was better than the first - the showdown near the end was great, and the ending put a big smile on my face. Riario is a real prick too. :)

    Enjoyable show.

Season 2 starts tonight. Season 1 was underrated and didn't get the audience it deserved. Looking forward to it. :)

If Starz pattern follows through....it will be cancelled after this season ends. No Starz show since Spartacus has made it past season 2, and all of their shows got an automatic second season before the first aired.

I expect Black Sails to get the same treatment....yet Incursion sits in development hell :(

Anyone watching? Season 2 has been superb, and episode 9 had some great twists. Only 1 episode left this season, but it has already been renewed for season 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,865 ✭✭✭squonk

I'm on episode 2 so far. It looks a bit better than last season but I'm not completely enamoured by the show really. It's filler for me when I've nothing else to watch but it's not the worst. At least it's renewed for a third season. If it wasn't tbh I'd stop now.

I like this show. I'm interested to see where it goes in series 3. There was a bit in the last season where I started thinking Ancient Aliens though...not sure if that would be good or not...

And the whole final season was officially released online for some. Wasn't planning on watching but since it's the final season, I may as well finish it out

The series really did up it's game in the second season and this seems to pick up exactly where it left off at the end of the second season.

Just finished watching S3 of this show last night and I would call it a disappointing season, everything seemed a bit rushed and jam packed and the enjoyment of the previous two seasons just wasn't there. One thing I did enjoy was the appearance of a slightly camp and comedic Vlad the Impaler.

Was happy to see the end of Lucrezia, a character I never really took to. Also a well deserved exit for Sixtus, he had it coming. I found Riario an intriguing character, more so when completely mad, I even went on to wikipedia to check out his back story. I'm not sure if I liked the portrayal of Da Vinci as somewhat of a ladies man, I would haven't expected Starz to back of from a gay angle to a story.

Season 1 & 2 I really enjoyed but S3 fell away from those highs.

I seem to remember in the first series he was accused of being with a male prostitute but apart from that nothing. I enjoyed it and they wrapped it up nicely.

The dampener for me is it took so long to get here. It must be 18 months since season 2. I was struggling to remember

watched the first 2 and a bit episodes but then stopped. Think I got a bit after finding Lucretia crucified in the pope's bath. Did they really just kill one of the main characters randomly like that? Keep meaning to go back but really can't be bothered. Was gonna drop the show anyway but when this was announced as the final season, I figured I may as well finish it out. But it's a struggle

Yeah I'm about 5 in and finding it a slog to finish the rest. I have some work to do in the evenings this week, so I might just leave it on in the background.
