Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Golf misfiring when accelerating

    Hi All,

I have been having issues with my 2002 TDi Golf for the last month or so.
When I am accelerating, it sometimes shudders/misfires for a second or two, then continues to accelerate as normal. It happens mainly when taking off or when the car is below 2500rpm. I havent ever noticed it while driving at motorway speeds.
Sometimes when I am sitting in traffic the engine sounds rough/vibrating loudly. Its intermittent though.

So far I have replaced the air and fuel filter and put a diesel additive (millers diesel injector cleaner) in my tank before refuelling. This hasnt fixed the issue.

I checked pipes going into the engine and can see no obvious leaks or cracks. Also the ecu is not showing any error codes. I am thinking of replacing the MAF sensor (seen mixed reviews between cleaning and replacing it, so might just buy one). It looks easy enough to replace. Does this sound like the right next step to take?

Any further thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

A faulty MAF doesn't cause that type of harsh misfire/shudder. When it fails the performance is just flat through the rev range.

Is it mis firing or is there a "judder" when it happens. If you've checked everything else and all seems ok, it could be a flywheel issue.

    Hi All,

Apologies for not replying to this thread sooner. The solution in my case was to replace the injector wiring loom, just posting in case this might help someone else in future. Nice cheap fix too!
