Genuine question...would that constitute a spoiled vote tho? They have shown a clear preference?

If you make any mark on it other than 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.... it's spoiled.

just been to vote, as I said earlier in the thread MMG & No No

Always gives me a nice feeling being able to vote, I use my vote as a thank you to the men who fought and died to give me that right

I think when a clear, distinguishable preference has been shown its not a spoiled vote. There was a lot of debate around it at the last general election.

    Well, back now. Two things...

First, there was an older woman having a right go at the girls there when I went in about the refs; she was complaining it wasn't clear which voting paper was which. She was really ripping into them. I kept quite, since I hadn't seen the papers yet but when I did get them, I actually joked with the girls, since they were pretty clearly marked that one was about judges pay and the other was about the other thing. She was still complaining in the car park when I left as well. Real nutter.

Second, my brother, after we came out, asked who the woman at the top of the ballot was. I said Mary Davis. He shrugged. I said the woman from the posters which show her walking. He went "oh!". Now he's only young enough and he's not that bothered about voting, but it shows the problem with MD's stupid posters and not showing her face in them :S

I would love to know who Mary McAleese voted for.

Mary Davis was on the council of state, so I'd guess it was her.

I only put one preference, I "ticked" beside Michael D, which is fine. If I'd ticked other boxes it would be spoiled, as they couldn't distunguish my preference.

    1- Norris
    2 - Higgins

I voted Norris because the possibility of the pope kissing the ground in front of a gay man when he arrives next year puts a smile on my face.

Maybe this has been asked before, in a hurry at work so dont have time looking it up.

Lets say MDH gets voted in as President, and he, lets say, dies (not beyond the bounds of possibilty) next week.

Does the runner up get to take the Presidency, or do we have to start the whole fcukin freak show over agian?

Michal D's Vice President (Ivana Bacik) takes over in the event of his passing.

    (might not be true).

No idea, luckily there's another referendum on the protection of children coming up soon so we have a fallback position.

Bear in mind that you, or I, could kick the bucket even before next week. So don't tempt karma.:rolleyes:

However, those who drafted our Constitution were at least as well aware as I am, that none of us can know for certain when we'll shuffle off this mortal coil, and they made provision for it in Article 12:

"3. 1° The President shall hold office for seven years from the date upon which he enters upon his office, unless before the expiration of that period he dies, or resigns, or is removed from office, or becomes permanently incapacitated, such incapacity being established to the satisfaction of the Supreme Court consisting of not less than five judges.
2° A person who holds, or who has held, office as President, shall be eligible for re-election to that office once, but only once.
3° An election for the office of President shall be held not later than, and not earlier than the sixtieth day before, the date of the expiration of the term of office of every President, but in the event of the removal from office of the President or of his death, resignation, or permanent incapacity established as aforesaid (whether occurring before or after he enters upon his office), an election for the office of President shall be held within sixty days after such event.":)

could we maybe add a poll for everyones referendum votes?

id say its by far the more important issue.

Same as that. Personally i think Higgins has behaved better than Norris who just came across as shouty and cranky since he reentered the race and would make a better president. But as the Pres is pretty much a pointless role then anything that pisses off The vatican will suffice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,373 ✭✭✭Dartz

Yeah. I gave him Number 3.

    Nulty got 1.

I met Nulty in person and had a long and interesting conversation with him. And he actually listened to what I was saying and answered me rather than spout a buzzword response.

    1. Norris (MDH is my preferred candidate but I'd like to see Norris reach the quota to retain his expenses)
    2. Higgins

    No to Judges Pay
    Yes to Oireachtas enquiry

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,562 ✭✭✭✭Sunnyisland

As its the presidential election in which the winner has no real power this is the vote of the realies.

    MMG 1
    MD 2
    Dana 3
    DN 4
    MDH 5

I also voted no in the two referendums .

It will be interesting to see the posts/threads when/if MMg does well tomorrow and the reaction from the so many unionists and Fianna gaelers here, especially if Gay the tantrum Mitchel comes 3rd.

yeah there is a real divide around.....its amazing really.

SF's terrorist attack on gallagher looks like it worked.

reminds me of when the socialists got in, in spain a couple of years ago.

    What terrorist attack?
