Coppinger won't be happy with these tallies so far, they have her 3rd behind a FF candidate, what a kick in the teeth for her if that remains the case.

Well, I was trying not to gloat :p
But I'm wondering if the boxes where her base is have not yet been opened thus skewing the tally so far as the two far lefties are tallying poorly.

AFAIK only Castleknock remains...the SP strongholds have already been done

    Cool.

Latest tally live from John Kilrane at Citywest, 70% of boxes opened. Castleknock will probably go FGs way.
    Lab 25, FF 22, SP 20, FG 15, SF 8

2 surprises for me, FF at 22 and SF only at 8.

    All in
    RT @msaoife: Final Tally #dubw Nulty 24.3 Coppinger 21 McGuinness 21.7 Donnelly 9 Loftus 14.8 O'Gorman 5 Oth 4.3

Transfers will be interesting....disappointed for O'Gorman, really thought he'd do better.

RTE's John Kilrane saying (see 11:52) that McGuinness is in with a chance. That would be a shock - with "left" candidates accounting for 60% of the vote, surely transfers would be friendlier to Nulty than FF?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

Yeah, can't see them go anywhere but Nulty.

Shame on the people of Dublin West who gave their first preference to a FF candidate.:( Bizarre in fact. What's the matter.

It's a democracy, live with it.

The leftovers of the Lenihan dynasty. On the upside, it is looking like Dublin West won't be represented by FF for the first time in a long, long time.

Touché. I am living with it and the utter mess FF have made of this country and 20 odd percent of people still vote for them! Clueless!
That's actually a failure of democracy.

SF continue to struggle in Dublin West - is it because there are a number of strong left candidates? Their performance over the last few general elections

    1987 General Election 1.1%
    1989 General Election 1.8%
    1992 General Election 2.8%
    1996 By-election 5.5%
    1997 General Election 5.0%
    2002 General Election 8.0%
    2007 General Election 4.8%
    2011 General Election 6.1%
    2011 By-election 9.0% (tally estimate)

Today's jump to 9% was encouraging for them, its got to be put in the context of Higgins / Burton not competing for votes.

Looks like Dublin is finaly FF free, we should celebrate with Bastille day type of celebrations

FF still got 21% of the vote which i find incredible, i mean do these people actually support the loss of economic sovereignty and being run by the IMF?

I didn't vote for him, but that's just your opinion. Everyone could post similar voicing their own opinion, I would wonder why the hell anyone would vote for SF in any election. I could say they're clueless, same goes for the socialists, but I didn't as that's their choice. I too do wonder why people would now vote for FF as a party but I'm guessing in this instance it was more for the person than the party.

And 20% of people didn't vote FF, only 20 odd % of the turn out voted for them which is very small.

Cannot see how McGuinness is in with a chance. He would have to get 90% of Green and SF transfers as well as a good chunk of FG transfers. People do not transfer to FF.

    First count

    Total poll 36391
    Spoiled 689
    Valid poll 35702
    Quota17852

    Birmingham 185
    Hunt 775
    Cooney 51
    Coppinger 7542
    Donnelly 3173
    Doris 95
    Kidd 311
    Loftus 5263
    McGuinness 7742
    Nulty 8665
    O'Ceallaigh 40
    O'Gorman 1787
    Tallon 73

Shocked Barry Caesar Hunt got so much 1st preference votes. Looking likely that Nulty will win the seat, I expect Coppinger to finish 2nd and McGuinness 3rd.

That's true. I was just thinking that myself. What exactly was the turnout in Dublin West anyway?

I too am astonished at the complete stupidity of people in West Dublin who gave FF their number 1. People will scream at Kerry and Tipp for voting for gobsh**es like Healy Rae and Lowry, Dublin West nearly got in the same category.

WTF is wrong with you people?

Recount under way but only 3 left in...Nulty is well ahead and then McGuinness is 17 votes in front of Coppinger...hence socialists call recount

I can only presume the Socialists are trying to spare the humiliation of finishing behind FF because there is absolutely no chance of them getting the seat now.

I am shocked FF got so many votes and FG so few votes, would have thought FG would be in the position that FF was in. At least Leo has a clear path for the next election. The battle between Joan and Patrick should be brutal.
