I just saw Higgins saying she's the Socialist/United Left Alliance candidate, did she have united left on any of her literature ? To be honest I didn't take much notice of any of it so could well have been.

Leo tells it like it is, the Socialist Party wasting peoples money and time to see who comes second, spot on Kiwi.

Higgins going off on a rant now to Dobbo.

Yup - she certainly had it on all her posters (and I presume her leaflets as well).

I think FF were the ones who put a MASSIVE effort into mobilising their vote. who knew there were that many FF voters still in the area. Anyone want to start a witch-hunt? Monday night? :D;)

It gives me great pleasure to reply to you ALL :D - I told you he would go well and between the lot of you and including a number of key posters here; you clearly need to understand this area. I do :D

I never once boasted that David would win the seat but I did predict a very good showing. 7750 1st preferences. get in there you lad ya :)

HE BEAT THE SOCIALISTS TO SECOND PLACE. :) YES

Let me tell you a thing about this area. David Increased Brian Lenihan's vote by 1000's, check the stats. David brought out the young vote, the usual non voters and the personal vote as a man who is liked all round. Politics is personal and if you are personal you can do well.

Congratulations to Patrick Nulty. He is a decent man and I wish him the best which is allot more to be said with allot of your comments.

Finallly let me say, to the posters and viwers here that did support David McGuinnes, we are here for a very long long time, if you need something done - contact me or David or the FF members. We are only too happy to help.

To the people who knock everything in life including a good decent candidate, you too are encouraged to come to us if you need assistance. Remember; David McGuinness is a great man.

PEACE OUT. YOURS SINCERELY, CHUCK NORRIS :P

Considering the vast resoursces of the Fianna Faíl party were concentrated on this constituency as they had no presidential candidate then crowing about second place says it all.
There is no grey area here,. I hear people say things like "ordinary decent members/supporters of Fianna Faíl" To me there is no such thing. To be a supporter of FF you have to seriously question your moral compass.
What do FF stand for? I'd like a FF member to tell me why they joined the party and what exactly are the ideals of FF?

And more importantly what do they get out of it. Nudge Nudge.

11580 people voted for David McGuinness. That means 1 in 4 people supported him. Go find one of those 11580 and ask them :D

DAVID MCGUINNESS IS A GENUINE DECENT INDIVIDUAL. 11580 HAVE CONFIRMED IT.

People voting for you does not equal genuine or decent. Lowry got 14000 votes in North Tipp and topped the poll and we all know about his decency.

The only thing we can take from this result is that there is 11580 people who have zero right to complain about the mess of the country and the state of politics.

I am not an FF supporter. I think that David McGuinness can claim that he is not part of the FF rump that destituted the country though. Although I did see Micheal Martin campaigning at Superquinn last Saturday. Unfortunately he was busy speaking to someone and I didn't get the chance to ask him any questions.

 He really proves he is not a FF rump by being a FF member, being a FF councillor, standing shoulder to shoulder with FF policy, using the legacy of Brian Lenihan to get votes, getting very high profile FF <SNIP> to campaign for him...

Yep, crystal clear that he is very different to the usual FF<SNIP>.

The topic of this thread is about first preferences, so no need for the knocking that's going on. Stick to the topic please.
I suggest you say who you voted no. 1 and why, then leave it at that.
    Thanks

David McGuinness received 7550 roughly of 1st preference votes. He was told he was a lamb to the slaughter, but he turned out to be the overall % winner and I warned you all. He is highly regarded.

He ended up on 11500 give or take ;)

Brian Lenihan had a core support. Agreed? Yes, ok.

David has now been accused of getting the Lenihan vote; how?

David McGuinness exceeded Brian Lenihans 1st preference vote by about 1700 even though less people came out to vote this week. 49%

Gaspode is right, allot of knocking is going on here.

The 10% exit poll on boards.ie for DmcG proves that the world does not operate around forum's but by all the people. 22% - YES.

So Chuck what's the plan now, I reckon your man will definitely get in next time around, but any plans in the meantime?

Yes many plans in the meantime.

First off, get more people to vote. Only 20% of Mulhuddart voted. That need's to change. Ongar needs to vote in bigger numbers. At 5pm Thursday only 11% of Ongar voted. Those communities needs representation more than most.

Clinics: David needs to service the entire population of dublinwest and that means at least three regular clinics across the constituency.

Office: This is going to be hard but it has to be established again. It will be tough but not impossible.

Finally, the people that voted for David cannot be forgotten. He will keep active and now he has a team behind him and people are coming on board by the day since Friday. The people that did not vote for him may look toward him and see if they vote for him in the future; he needs to gain their trust and support and I firmly believe he will.

As a bit of feedback for David, I am new to the area and will not be voting for him. Ever. I may well have been swayed by him at some point but you should let him know that the way his canvassers (you) have reacted in this forum has put me off. If he wants to gain voters then he needs to reel in his canvassers and ensure that they present him in a positive light. From the few times I've seen him on TV he has come across as a decent person, but most of my exposure to him has been in this forum. The internet is a powerful tool in politics these days and David needs to remember that.

In an area with a lot of candidates, but a lack of credible options, I feel that that's as good a reason as any not to vote for him.

I wish him the best of luck in the future. Hopefully he can reel in his canvassers so that they don't reflect badly on him in the future.

You must realize the point blank abuse that has arisen on this forum with no foundation and so much innuendo.

I have throughout this thread been quite clearly well balanced - If i offended, I apologize.

But let me point out The Waltzing Consumer above. When a person identifies people as scum, everyone has a right to defend themselves or people they know.

PS: Athrasna missed me here over the last while ;)

Ongar. That would be the massive new village that has thousands of people living in negative equity thanks to FF and the way they managed the economy. Of course it wasn't their fault, it was Lehmans and the greedy bankers.

Yea! I'd also love to see a much higher turnout there. If your wished come true then FF will be wiped out again.

All you have to do is to look at the leader of the party. A man who sat at the cabinet table table all during the boom and didn't say a word. Maybe he didn't read his briefs, the same as the one in Health that he never read.

All fair points indeed but where does that go to addressing the issue I mention in this thread?

We can all harp on to the past of which I would be as vocal as you too and you know I put a lot of the blame down to Bertie (not Lehmans) and Irish bankers too.

So any comments on how to address voter turnout in certain areas? Remember that Labour, Fine Gael, Sinn Fein and mister Ghusto all contested the election so why no protest vote?

OK, so nobody really that interested in the OP's exit poll? In that case this thread is like the election, Over.
