I'm sure this is exactly the sort of image that would appeal to the average sportive participant. :pac:

It's pity there's nothing like the UK cx sportives on offer over here, or some kind of hybrid on/off road/trail similar the the Rapha Hell of the North ride every March. I'd imagine it'd be quite popular.

Lads would you travel West for something like this.
What would be the prefered distance.

We dont have the full mtb options here but have been wondring about a mixed route which we do have.

I would. I suppose it'll be hard to gauge what level of interest is out there just from this thread though.

100/120kms or thereabouts, depending on the amount of off road stuff, enough to make it worthwhile travelling over to do it.

120km of cyclocross? Are you completely insane? :pac:

No no, not 120kms of cyclocross.

100/120kms similar to the link I posted there, which was a 100km ride, and as I said, all depending upon the amount of off road/trail sections.

I would - but not for anything more than about 80km.

Something like in the posting - choice of routes 40km, 60km and 80km.

God knows we must have enough trails, tracks and bohereens in some part of the country for something like this.

there'd have to be hot food at the end too!!

Indeed. Last week's 13.5km race was more than enough for me for one day.

There's certainly a lot of unpaved bohereens out there, though most that I've been on are dead ends. On the OS discovery series maps they're usually drawn as thin grey roads, where low grade L-roads are similar yellow roads. I found some over the summer, that were good gas, including stream crossings, but quite short. I'd say if you put an 80k circuit together, you'd do well to get more than 20k of unpaved sections. Coilte tracks would work well too; the could be the basis for a nice mixed on / off road route not too far from Dublin, though hilly as hell. The dotted lines on the maps should be Coilte tracks.
