Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buying a bike... by its looks

    Hi all,
I want to buy my first 'proper' road bike; currently I'm riding a crappy hybrid and looking for upgrading it to something more serious. BTW scheme is available to me, so I have around 1k to spend. I'm not into racing or etc, bike is just for general fitness and pleasure (planning to do 50-60km spins when good weather is back next year).
Now I'm a woman and the looks play a big role when making my choice. I really like the looks of Cube Attempt:
    https://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=35&idproduct=40665
But after visiting the store yesterday (and listening to stories about delays on cube deliveries and value for money blah blah) I was persuaded to go with Lapierre Audacio :
    https://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=35&idproduct=45682#details

now the question is: is it worth waiting till January for the cube and what do I get for those extra 200eur?
p.s. I didn't like chunky giant frame and those 'women specific' bikes looked a bit too girlie for me :D color-wise I mean :D

Cyclesuperstore ALWAYS push the Lapierre. Must be more cash to be made on it, maybe, I dunno for sure. There is nothing wrong with them and they are good bikes. That wait on the Cube may or may not be real. The Cube has a better groupset (105 > Tiagra).

Get the one which you will be most happy to look at when it's taking pride of place in your kitchen.

105 vs tiagra is irrelevant, they are both 10 speed and both bikes are listed at the same weight 8.9kg (although it it will be heavier in the real world).

Value wise, there is nothing in it. Get the one that fits you the best

Because of course guys never spend a few hundred euro more on a bike than intended because of it's looks. :D

well I went to the shop with idea to get myself a cube but they even didn't one my size to sit on. The guy got me to sit on few others and at the end 46cm lapierre was decided to be a perfect fit (I'm 5ft4), it looked tiny but I've never ridden a road bike so I can't tell what size I need.
my bf has got cube mtb that I ride sometimes and I like it a lot, it feels good nice and sturdy, no squeaks or creeks, smooth gears change etc.. off road cycling wouldn't be my thing but I'm impressed with this cube and tempted to get myself a cube too.

on the other hand if I'm not gaining anything ride wise by spending extra money I'd probably be better off sticking with cheaper lapierre and slapping few red stickers on it would improve the looks :D

I think the lapierre looks better! I like the curved top tube.

Looks? I can't think of a better reason to buy a bike. It may be the best bike in the world but if it doesn't look the mutt's nutts you'll never love it.
