But sure, if someone does call me a munter, I'd just shrug because of course they have no clue what I look like. I would think the worst reaction is to get wound up, TBH. Comments like that are designed to get the rise, and well, it works evidently!

Listen Miss Olenska, I'm sitting here slurping a cup of tea laughing at this thread and the comments on it...if you think for one second I'm crying or getting upset over some fella who thinks the best way to insult a woman is to call her ugly, then you're wrong.

For the last time, not against the whole sexy thing but a certain kind of sexy costume.

This thread was supposed to be light-hearted....I hardly have sleepless nights over this but some people use it as a chance to be a dickhead.

Eve, again, what has a box of cornflakes got to do with Halloween?

As much as Catwoman has, I suppose...

Eve, again, what has a box of cornflakes got to do with Halloween?

I never said the costume had to be related to Halloween. Others did. I like the whole "wacky costume" thing (you don't...you find it irritating....maybe start a thread? Expect someone to call you fat or ugly though about 5 posts in). Read original post.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 559 ✭✭✭Miss Olenska

Facebook is making it worse. Some people had their 'wacky' pics up no sooner than a few minutes after getting home. Pagans the whole lot of em.

I had always pictured the OP as a box of Honey Nut Loops for some reason.

Yup. I dread the onslaught of "KERAZY" Halloween profile pics every year. Groan!!!

I don't think Eve's doing that - just expressing a view. It is of course up to anyone how they want to dress up, and I'd agree not every girl who dresses in an uber skimpy outfit is trying to be sexy for the lads, plus lots of "scary" outfits are sexy (in the good way!)

But you were referring to my reaction.

I kinda agree Eve. It would be good if girls were ok with making fools of themselves, but unless others do first, I know I won't. besides that I like to look hawt when I head out whatever night of the year it is, so that's why I went with a french maid outfit, much to some peoples annoyance it seems. I wouldn't mind dressing up in something hawt but original, however I have no imagination as I've said many times in here, and had even less motivation to make something original, so that's why I borrowed an outfit.

I used to be a bit annoyed that this is what girls do, but feck it, it doesn't really differ a whole lot to any other night of the year, and doesn't do any harm, so leave em off I say.

Because you're not bothering to read the thread properly - just gleefully finding bitchiness where there isn't any, from a woman. As you're wont to do every so often.

Well, Catwoman is a character from Batman, putting it slightly closer to the Halloween ballpark.

Yeah, I know she's only expressing a view but I guess it's tantamount to pissing in the wind; I think most people drink too much and can't understand how they enjoy themselves that way but it don't change nothin': people will follow the crowd.

Lads generally look original/ funny/ scary but most girls just dress up as male fantasies, leading me to believe there are some very, very odd fetishes out there... sexy watermelon?! Anyways cracked.com says it better than I ever could.

Slutty girls in slutty costumes tribute

I'm an absolute bitch! You got me! Some women do sexy Halloween costumes with a bit of imagination, some don't. Those who don't annoy me personally but like Miss Olenska gets annoyed by wacky costumes. It's just a view.

I'm not a woman-hater. I don't get jealous of other women and I don't resent other women being sexy. I'm commenting on their costumes, not their sexiness. I'm secure enough in my own looks to not feel that way.

Why do some men believe all women have some secret hatred for other women? Why do some men believe were all a trembling mess of insecurity?? FFS...

Generally, anything in the scary theme is aligned with the intrepretation of Halloween in the modern sense. Yeah, yeah, we all know it was originally a pagan festival but it has evolved since then.

That's alright. I've no real problems with this. As I said, this doesn't keep me up at night. It was supposed to be a light-hearted thread, not an attack on the idea of sexy or sexy women. It's a light-hearted view on a certain kind of costume lacking imagination (like people who dress up as smurfs). It's After Hours and most of what's posted here is "pissing in the wind" and the aimless ramblings of hungover posters minds. I've made my point but some people are taking this very, very seriously and accusing me of being a bitch and when I defend myself, they say I'm being defensive :confused: Of course I fecking am! I've just been (unfairly in my opinion) labelled a bitter bitch!

    I'm out of here...

In fairness, Eve has a view that it's boring the way some (mostly much younger to be fair) girls go all "Heeheehee! I'm naughty and sexy!" over Halloween. The kinda ones who do that "I'm so surprised a picture was taken of me with my tits out" expression on Facebook. Say they're not irritating and you're lying! :p
If Eve finds it boring, she finds it boring - and she has a right to express that view without being told she's unattractive, jealous or bitchy. It's getting SERIOUSLY old at this stage...

I think a sexy costume is great if it displays a bit more than simply "Let's make the boys like us".

It may have been possible to walk the very thin line of fun/quirky and sexiness by carefully placing the cornflakes over your sexy bits.

Because we observe your behaviour. I am a professional working in offices for the past 15 years. Women are terrible for fighting amongst themselves. Lads generally grow out of getting in rows etc but the bitching that goes on (without exception) is something to behold

In fairness if you bitch about something, you can be called a bitchy.
    I never suggested anything else.

Yeah and it's kinda tedious being a woman who isn't like the above, yet is told she is, simply because she's also a woman...

I think with costumes you have to balance originality with the person wearing what they want to wear.

And laziness and lack of skills are factors too.

Unable to make something, I got a knock-off version of a famous character's costume, which with some TLC became more authentic.

But if I could, as a big horror film buff, I would've gone as a horror film icon.
But I felt if I got a storebought one, I would've felt like I wasn't doing the character justice by being lazy.

But if I tried to make one myself, it would probably have been pretty lame.

(Stranger: "Who are you supposed to be?"
Me: "Micheal Myers from Halloween. From that part where his mask fell off for a second."
    Stranger: "...")

Though I promise myself next year I'll put in the time and effort to go as Count Orlok from Nosferatu.

So some people just go for the storebought ones as it's convenient or they can't be bothered making one.
And unfortunately the choices for female costumes are mostly limited to the "sexy [something]" variety.

I dressed as britney spears in baby one more time, white knee high socks, tiny school girl skirt, white shirt with knot tied in it etc... But Im male! sorry for being a bore OP :)

I just think a lot of crowd following wimminz sell themselves short on Halloween. No problem with that but it does get a bit face palmish.

    I'm a doctor/ scientist (that's smart) no no I'm sexy

I'm a DC comics superhero (oooh! heroic!) no, a sexy superhero

    I'm a pirate (that's... swashbuckling!) no I'm a sexy pirate

I'm a cat (that's insert cat- like trait) no no I'm a sexy cat

I'm Freddy Kreuger (pretty scary) it's not, it's sexy Freddy Kreuger

I'm a clown (gonna do something funny?) nope, I'm just sexy.

Sexiness, the true spirit of Halloween.

I dress as the biggest slut you ever did see on the Saturday, t*ts up to my neck, legs going on for miles. Then, to mix it up n the Sunday I dressed in my best knacker gear. Fake fag in hand, baby dolls strapped to knees, and a fake bump too.

    It's only bit of fun.

Seriously though, you've been making all kind of assumptions based on my maturity, my defensiveness, my intent for posting since the start of this thread and you don't know anything about me. You're the one that needs to grow up.
