I know you say you dont want to go to the pound, but you would be surprised of just how many purebred puppies are turning up in the pounds and rescues now. And staffies are amongst them, so you might be surprised by what you find. Stay away from online sites like donedeal, and instead contact the IKC or check this link here; there are a few clubs for staffordshire bull terriers listed therehttp://ikc.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=32

Why not get in contact with EGAR, they specialise in bully breeds and I have often seen a pup or too up for rehoming. Other than that like the above poster said the IKC is the way to go.

I have had dogs all my life but this is my first bull breed what is EGAR
I am in Waterford and checked the pound there was nothing there that suited me.

EGAR is a dog rescue charity that specialise in staffies and bull terriers.

The other posters were right though, trust me...soooo many PUPPY pure breeds are being put in to the pounds throughout Ireland.

Also, check www.irishanimals.ie, there you should find rescue centres for specific breeds in Ireland.

DO NOT buy from an un-registered breeder. Go to IKC otherwise.

while it can be hard to find young staff pups, if you're dead set on one they are to be found in irish and UK shelters, it just takes a little looking and patience

for instance this little lady (daisy) is currently for re-homing in battersea, london. rehoming from UK is a lot easier than you'd think.

Beautiful dog but is there any way to find a breeder near Waterford, they seem to not be many around. We already have other pets and are a young couple so kids will come soon. We want to train it ourselves from as young as possible.

If ya know anything let me know.

well there are far too many staffies needing homes and being PTS everyday so please reconsider...

BUT if you are dead set on going to a breeder then you should contact the IKC. staffie pups need proper socialisation from a young age as they are head strong & stubborn little brats (in the best possible way:)) so a good trust worthy breeder is a must.

Like the other poster said they are a rescue that is based in galway that deals with bully breeds that other rescues may not be able to take in for insurance reasons. At the moment they have a 4 month old APBT which would be rarer than a staff in Ireland so it does happen and these pups do come up for rehoming. If you are going to go to a proper breeder and do everything right you will be put on a waiting list. So why not have a look around and see if you can find the right dog. Also I know of a fella who rescues staffs on his own time. Will have a word with him and see if he has anything that is suitable.

Just a note - whilst I understand the importance of rehoming the many dogs that are already out there, the OP has expressed their wishes and I'd ask that people stop pushing rescues at them.

The OP has specifically asked that theres no lectures about rescuing a dog since he wants a young puppy and so far every single post has went against this. How hard is that to understand??

OP you more than likely will have to travel for the right dog from the right breeder. They tend not to be conveniently nearby!

We had to make a 5hr round trip (twice) to get our pup. No decent breeder will let you take a pup on the first visit.

same as above we did a 8 hour round trip to get my bully, if you want a specialized dog you are going to have to travel for them.

Just wanted to say that if you go on the Irish Pitbull Terrier Association's forum they might be able to direct in where to go for a good breeder. They do great work in trying to change the image of the bully breeds. I know of a fella operating in limerick who breeds pitbulls and staffs who is involved in the IPBTA and I would say he's not the only one. Other than that ICK all the way. Best of luck finding your new family member.

I found someone local with a american bulldog/staff mix lovely lil pup. I was not entirely fussy on the breed, I am fairly active and already have another dog. Got a bitch so got to get her fixed soon.

Thanks for all the advice people, I went to the sellers house and saw his kids and wife, He was really sad to see her go.
