Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Got a PFO from A&L. Such a kick in the teeth. Really don't know what to do now.

Sorry to hear that parripassu. There are 2 Trainee solicitor ads up on the Law Society of Ireland website, one for a firm specialising in criminal law and the other opening is being managed by an agency (so no details) Worth a shot! I am not sure what stage you are at, but the summer internship 2012 application process for all these firms picks up again in February next year, so I am aiming for that.

Anyone hear anything from Byrne Wallace yet?

    Hi all,
Just wondering can anyone give any info on the group interviews..topics etc! Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 16 MaryPopins

Hi whoopdidoo. It is all very topical. Best advice is make sure you read the papers. You're going to have an opinion on everything they ask about. Don't be nervous, it'll get you nowhere! Talk to the trainees before you go in. Have a look at the partners on the website before hand so you know who you're looking at. Finally, try answer one question first. One girl in my interview also VERY CLEVERLY worked the firms principles into her answers. I thought that was genius. To be honest, it's very painless.

Any word from William Fry - I heard of one person being sent a PFO by email?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Pudsey1

I didnt apply for Fry due to issues with written references and being disorganised...
The only one I have heard from is AC.... no word from McCann, O'D & S, Mapels or Dillon E!

You don't really need to know commercial stuff for first interview but in the second interview you do like legal scenarios! First one is just a chat and going through CV really.

Can anyone recommend a good interview work shop in Dublin where I could brush up on my interview skills? Don't really want to pay over the €150 mark for it.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated/

3pm. That means I was in the waiting room when you came back for your coat and stuff. Haha. How did you find the interview? I found it ok. It could have been better but at least it wasn't awful. I think I was a bit too courteous though. It was my 1st group interview and on every question I was one of the last few to comment. It made me look like I had nothing to say. If I do not progress to the next round next year I will be a courteous shark!

Sound. I was the tall guy who spoke about the Irish language. Proud of how I did but I'm not sure I'm cut out for the corporate law world. Interview was a. great experience though.

Hey everyone, I need a small bit of help please, I'm in a bit of a panic. I applied for the usual 5/6 big firms like most of you, and saved copies of my applications onto a memory stick. Got a letter in the post from A&L last Friday got an interview, all excited, so pulled out my memory stick on Saturday to look through the application and nothing had saved onto it. I almost cried. I can't remember exactly what A&L asked on the application because I filled in so many of them, is there any way any of you kind people would PM me with what was on the application form and I'll have a fair idea of what I said (I'm not looking for your answers, only the questions!!) I would really, really appreciate this. Thanks in advance, Sarah

    Ah it's yourself!
Yeah the standard of applicants was amazing. There wasn't a single person in the room who answered poorly or came across as anything less than a strong candidate.
I'd be at a disadvantage compared to other candidates (I've not done any FE1s or legal work before and my background is in public law rather than corporate for example) so I won't be devastated if I don't get it, but it was a class experience. Best of luck with your own application, I'd say you'll do really well at it.

Yes, I think it can be very valuable to go to pre interview drinks receptions as you get a good feel for the firm and fellow candidates. It certainly helped me craft a covering letter for ByrneWallace. Plus you never know what contacts you can make, provided you can recall names:D A friend of mine , who got a TC with Maples made very good use of the drinks reception chats with the partners, and used that information to her advantage in subsequent interviews.

Good luck with AC today, am so jealous;)

Clearly they think well enough of you to ask you back a second time, so hopefully all will go well for you:) Did you ask for feedback last time? I have asked for feedback in the past and found it useful.

Do you receive feedback if you ask? I think I am going slowly insane, I can't bare the not knowing and the waiting. Another week to wait for Fry's. I would just love to know what the story is with the rest of them. How long do you think it will be before we hear back from the rest? It seems to be only MOP, AC, FRYS and A&L who have gotten back to people.

Have AC today!!Feeling very nervous waiting around for it and thinking about the types of questions that might come up. :eek:Iv heard its very topical and can often resemble a debate. Any insight from those of you who have already gone through it this time round??Let me know!!:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 38 LivinLaVida

I thought the AC interview wasn't too bad. It is hard to gauge how much that you should answer but there is nothing actually hard about the questions. You would have to be living under a rock not to have heard about the things that they will ask italy, interest rates, presidency etc

I sent mine in about 2 days before the deadline (I sent it in before but only wrote down my LC points without giving my grades in specific subjects so they sent me a letter asking me to resubmit before the deadline)
I'm ambivalent either way. I liked the interview but personally don't feel I'm the most suitable for the job so either way, I'm happy out.

If you got that far and they accepted you for another interview they must have been impressed. You came across very well at the group interview so I'd say you've an excellent chance.

For those doing the interview, AC debates are VERY topical. We got questions on the presidency, interest rate cuts, what Ireland's greatest export is and what the most important part of advertising is.

Thanks for getting back to me Lockstep:D I am so jealous that you got to the group interview stage, as I would love to work in a commercial law firm;) But not to worry, I will be back in 2012. I am quite persistent:pac: In the interim, I had better brush up on my commercial awareness and current affairs. Wow asking about Italy was bang up to date. Did anyone mention Bunga Bunga parties;)

In the meantime has anyone heard from ByrneWallace.....anyone at all????

Glad it went well for ya sazzy:D They are really looking to see how you interact with the group, rather than a test of your knowledge (at least that what I was told at an open evening). Did you get asked what your favourite book was etc? Sounds a bit like Big Brother, without the tasks and the annoying voice over guy;)

Good luck with MOPS. At least they give an exact date when round 1 and 2 of the interviews are going to be held, which is excellent. I wish the other firms had done that! Did you see their (i.e. MOPS) legal jargon app for smart phones? Very useful for cramming on ye old buzz words prior to interview! So at least you will know what a bond is etc! I might be more inclined to say Bond...James Bond lol.

Ah BlackBerry, the delicious tool of the devil;) I really disliked the tiny keyboard on my old BlackBerry. I recently switched to an iPhone, so was able to download the app onto that. Sadly, the latest version of the iphone came out 2 weeks later:( Check the MOPS site to see if the app is available from android market.
