Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

Beginner looking for my first Road Bike.

Have a budget of between 600-650.

Was initially looking at a Carrera TDF for 400 quid to get me started but most advice is to spend more now instead of upgrading in a years time.

The big question is what is a good buy for up to 650?

    Cheers in advance;)

Just got a Cube Aerial for 770 from buildabike. Sora components, Shimano wheels, light enough.

Very happy with that purchase considering the average price of a decent road bike.

I increased my budget and the 2012 Cube Peloton caught my eye - was supposed to be in stores on 5th Dec. but now Cycle Superstore seem to think Jan. potentially Feb. at the earliest!
    Anybody any the wiser?

Might have to hit the drawing board again! Hate fe*kin delays!

+1 on the Cube Aerial - have one myself as my first road bike and more than happy with it. With 2012 models out soon, places will be discounting 2011 models (I got a 2010 one in Feb for 350 euro less than the 2011 model from CRC).

Also +1 on bcmf's bike...If I had the cash I'd buy that myself

I recently bought the raleigh airlite 400 as my second bike/commuter, in my opinion you cannot do better for the money, solid frame and nice components.

There is a beone 2010 bike on CRC with 40% off, lighter than the raleigh and components slightly better.

BTW it doesnt matter much, a **** bike under a **** rider is gonna be ****! If you can push pedals fast with power you will transform a 600 euro bike.
