Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The aforementioned car, nearly 100k on the clock, 2 litre turbo, needs a couple of shocks, couple of tyres, handbreak fixed, has an oil leak and needs and a service. Bunch of other things broken like outside temps sensors etc but nothing important. Love driving it but costs us a lot each year too run in petrol and tax.We do a lot of driving. We have been wanting to switch to a more economical diesel for a while now but still were hoping to get as long as possible out of this car first. Am wondering is now maybe the time to get rid of it as am worried about putting all this cash into it and more going wrong in future. I know nothing about cars. I presume I'll get nothing for it? Anyone any opinions?

Depending on what it costs to put the handbrake right and how serious the leak is, you might get a few hundred? A Saab type person might take it off your hands, I doubt a scrappie would give you much.
IMHO If you got the handbrake sorted it would be ok to sell it, or trade it against something, sounds like the worst defects are obvious, I just wouldn't sell a car with dodgy brakes.

It's potentially worth it if you intend keeping if for the next 12 months or so, it's not worth it if you expect to sell it for +€1000 in the short term.

Not worth it. The car is worth less than 1k as is. Unless you really want to keep it for another few years, but you don't sound like you do.

If you don't fix it, what will €850 buy you ? And will that need work as well ?

If you spend the money, and get 6 month's out of it, you're quids ahead. Cheap motoring, 6month's for €850.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Thanks for your replies guys. I just already put it through the NCT and that's all that's wrong, breaks fine etc Minus about €140 for the service that it's overdue, the rest of the €850 is to get it through the retest. Just wondering if that's a lot to put into that car with that kinda mileage etc and worried that at that age more might go wrong and I might have to keep pouring money in, and was thinking quit/get out while ahead?Surely not an easy sell/trade in without it's NCT??

Not an easy sell, but if you're upfront with the work needed and ask a realistic price, it will sell!

Think of it this way. Sell it for €650. Add the €850 you were planning on spending on maintenance. Add another few hundred of your hard earned money.

Now you have a budget of nearly €2000 and that will give you a lot of choice of decent nick cars with a long test. Happy hunting and keep an eye on the bangernomics thread for inspiration :)

OP Saab 95 and over due service shouldn't ever be in the same sentence. TBH it doesn't sound like the car for you. Sell it.
