Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

we have 10 yearlings for replacements.6 of them are all around 440 kg the other four are between 360-400. all limox most with a touch of sim one with a bit of blue.
We started giving them a bit of meal with 16% protein.(is this ok or any better options)
first question is bar limo what would be a reliable easy calving option. (please dont start on about herefords or angus it wont happen).
preferable options would be part or blonde. (not to up to date on ai codes or names)
how much meal should they be getting?
do you think the lighter ones will be fit for bulling?
Hope to put them in calf in early feb.
    cheers.

We have a few ourselves, born spring '10, so heavier than yours now, I was thinking of putting the Blonde bull Ardclone Pyxis (APX) that Dovae have on them.
Our heifers are gone onto slats (with rubber) this week and were on good grass so probably dont need any meal.
If your lighter ones dont look strong enough in Feb, you can run them onto May and calve them in the spring if that was an option for you?
    What age are your heifers?

I know a guy that put BZB on his own pedigree heifers and had no problem calving, or so he said.

Hi chippy, what are you planning on doing with the calves, sell as weanlings or beef them yourself? I'd be slow to use a blonde on a heifer, don't know anything about parthas, but used aubrac on all my ic heifers this yr. Supposed to be easy calving, won't know till march though. Nothing wrong with an Angus either if you are going to beef them yourselves.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

If you are in the suckler cow scheme, you wont get paid if the heifer calves down under 24 months.

I would think that a heifer would want to be closer to 30 months calving down in order to give her a chance to grow and develop.

More over if you are keeping them on.
