I would much prefer the car without the bodykit tbh.

It looks to me like photos in the ad of the red car have a filter of some description on them which would worry me

lol, they are fairly pedestrian unless you are dogging them.

i'd be expecting a respray with red that vivid anyway, the original red on those had issues so a lot have seen paint.

€2650 is very unlikely to happen for him, they just aren't making that kind of money.

this is probably one of the best 190's on donedeal at the minute (and one of even fewer with NCT). it's not as much of a looker (arguably) without the TRD kit, but it's a UK model with history, it's insurable, has some nice bit's like TTE splitter and spoiler, leather etc. well worth a look if you're in the market.

Im going to check this one this week.

Guy sounds genuine, has some service history as well and its 03.Not bad

oh my oh my. i went to view that last year (second week of february iirc). had cash in hand and the owner turned it town, was giving the guy who is selling it now first refusal on it.

the front bumper is as flat as a fart, was painted badly before.
the rest of the body has that failing red painted i talked about, there is white blotches coming through it everywhere, particularly around the roof.
    the boot shocks are knackered.
the clutch has something iffy wrong with it, it bites very very high despite being a new clutch kit at the time i drove it and there is a fair whine from the release bearing on deceleration.
it also has a not very nice single din unit mashed into it.

it did have some redeeming features like a good history to it, it has got a new clutch kit even if it doesn't work great, it had EBC pads and dimpled and grooved discs and newly ran copper brake lines and a tasteful sub incorporated into the boot.

i'm not sure if the current owner even paid that much for it, i think i had it thrashed out for similar money. it is nice and it is very very rare to find a UK, facelift 190 with leather. i wouldn't say don't go view it, but if you, i'd want it for >€1500

edit: here's what i said at the time http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=94268803&postcount=9

it also has a removable swan neck towbar :) kinda weird.

Do you know the car? How do you know about the UK, leather, history?

it has all the hallmarks of a UK car,

oblong plates as opposed to square JDM plates
it has a "Toyota" badge on the boot, JDM models didn't get this
it doesn't have corner lights in the bumper like JDM models did
it has rear fog lights which JDM models didn't
it has a TTE front splitter, TTE rear spoiler, which are European market options
it has a T-Sport badge on the bootlid which is a UK trim level.

i can see the leather through the window. you can see the light grey pleather rear bench quite clearly and you can see the front seats are dark/ black which was the colour of the leather option. the non leather seats were vivid blues and reds with light grey around the outside and it would be highly unlikely to find a UK pre facelift 190 with cloth seats to begin with.

honestly, the history is a hunch. it's much more likely to have some form of history as opposed to a JDM example that will definitely have none. They state it was serviced 2k ago and i would assume that comes with some proof, if it didn't, why is it the only thing they mentioned? they must consider it a selling point. it's advertised in the same county as it's registered in and with just 2 previous owners, so it'd seem likely that it's retained it's paperwork. just a hunch, but i'd bet a penny to a pound.

Why do so many of these guys put in their cost of vintage insurance when surely they realise this figure will differ from one person to the next and one insurance company to the next.

I do wonder whats his basis for saying it turns more heads than a Ferrari. Such comments are in my opinion unnecessary noise and clutter that have no basis. Granted a Ferrari will most likely cost more but the seller should really stick to the facts and figures of the car in hand. Anyway there are a fair few of them Mgb's about. Granted most would probably most liklely only be taken out for vintage shows and rallies but its not like they are very hard to come by either.

i think classic policy prices are fairly consistently priced once you have a second daily driven vehicle.

Lads I need to make a decision on a car pretty soon as my own is on it's last legs and I've no other way in or out of work. Thoughts on this please?

it does look tastefully modified, but is €6200 not an awful lot to be asking.

you'd comfortably get a few years newer e90 for similar money. lots of 318 and 320d SE models around 06-07 for that kind of money, the odd M-Sport too.

Bit expensive no? 6.2k for an 11 year old car. Looks nice thought but with that budget you could get something much newer.
Take a look at the luxobarge thread :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,843 ✭✭✭✭bear1

    Here ya go :)

Over 3k less so you could tax it for a year and spend the rest on fuel and laugh your balls off.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/lexus-ls-430/10846315

Probably be even cheaper to maintain over the diesel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

it's not really like for like though, the BMW is probably fairly economical if he's commuting, €1000 worth of petrol really wouldn't take you that far and tax is 50% cheaper when year two inevitably comes around. you could also put a lot of things in the boot of the BMW like a labrador or a double buggy.

the Lexus is fabulous, but not really a good comparative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,843 ✭✭✭✭bear1

Ah yeah of course but you'd have less things to worry about going wrong with the petrol one. I'm only messing anyway but my point was that you could get much better for less than 6.2k on a 12 year diesel Beemer.
Reading his list though it does seem like a well taken care of example. It isn't an import anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭johndaman66

I'm not a fan of the X5 alloys on it. They look ok on the X5 but they don't really seem right to me on that the 3 seires estate for some reason. Mind you though having said that they don't look overly offensive and the car is otherwise quite tasty looking I think. Looks clean and its well equipped. €6,200 though....he must be having a laugh. You can surely do better for that kind of money.

This seems like a good one too. Being a 06 though you'd want to see if the injector recall was done, ask for the VIN and ask VW to confirm if the injectors were changed. If not then they are replaced for free ;)

On the 3 series BMW lads, he will come down to 5500 which is still 1000 overpriced in my mind. I offered 4500 which is cheeky considering his asking BUT i feel that's what it's worth given that I could get a much much newer one for little extra. The thing is I can't find another estate as nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

it's on another level overpriced... i doubt he'd take €4500 but even at that he's probably doing you a favour by not taking it.

€6500 is ridiculous for that car. It's worth 3500-4000 at most, and that's only as its an estate.

€6200 is comically overpriced, deep down the seller knows that, that's why he dropped nearly €1000 to €5500 the second you asked. your going to ask him to go €4500 and he's not going to do that, because he's waiting for a sucker to pay too much for it. he's doing you a favour by doing so because even €4500 is on the pricey side for that car.

I would play the long game on this one if you are not in a rush to buy. If he genuinely has to sell it make an offer you think it is worth to you and gauge reaction. Leave your number with him say the offer is open for a certain time. I would love an estate car myself for carrying my dog I am looking at e60s touring or x5 though because I have had 2 e46 in the past (great car, but been there, done that ) and I currently have an 04 e39 saloon.I have seen e60 estates 05/06 for the same kind of money (well I saw 2 recently as there are f#@k all estate bmw for sale which is the reason I have looked at x5). I do like that car though and if I was in the market for it and it checked out I would pay 4 grand all day long for it. Not 6 though, no way.

    Hi all,

Saw a 5 door BMW 1 series old version ie E87. Not the newer F20

Price 13,950 but could get him down to 12,000

80,000miles with full BMW service history

Would getting older version be really bad idea.

Think I might have to shell out more for bigger boot and longer wheel base.

I'm kinda interested in buying a TT they are pricey though!

By running costs being high do you mean Tax and fuel costs or maintenance also?

Posting my dads car. He's allowed to change it every 2 years and get the vrt back as there is a disabled member of the family.

Delete, ect. if it's not allowed. He's been offered 10,550 as a trade in value. So is open to offers. Basically as new. He and my mam drive it to Limerick city once a week to go shopping and that's pretty much it.
