    What's wrong with that?

    Because it's dishonest that's why. I wouldn't trust a dishonest seller. Simples. :)

Doesn't matter. If he's insuring it and taxing it as a 2.0 when it's actually a 2.5, that's insurance fraud, pretty much as dishonest as you can get IMO. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭tuborg_man

\he could be insuring it as a 2.5 though, it's still illegal but doesn't have to be insurance fraud, (just tax evasion.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,792 ✭✭✭Ded_Zebra

That carry on would put me off the car too. It would make me suspect that the car has been driven in a "particular way" by a certain type of person which would make me not want to be the next owner. I know it's all stereotyping but stereotypes exist for a reason ;)

All they have said is what the log book says. Have you proof that the seller is insuring it as a 2 litre or something?

I wouldn't let me turn it off the car, judge a car of that age on its merits. But if the car was in good shape and everything was done correctly on the engine change I'd be happy.

Gotta back up your claims here.

In fairness, it wasn't a claim that the person is doing it - more a general if;then statement, and a warning to be wary.

I wouldn't give a toss if anyone on here knows him. IF an engine change was carried out, then the seller should have had it changed and noted down as a 2.5. You can only assume that it wasn't mentioned in order to get cheaper tax and or cheaper insurance. I'm merely stating that a car that isn't taxed or possibly insured properly is something I'd probably avoid. It says quite a lot about the seller IMO.

Could be a very nice car though, looks well modded and all that. :)

The add says the car is taxed until 03/13, according to motortax.ie its (94d1907) in 1901 - 2000 tax band.

What's wrong with that? Few forms and it would be sorted.

Yeah, volunteering the info to sucker a thick buyer into thinking it's OK to retain the current motor tax rate... when doing this will/could cause major problems insurance-wise in the event of a claim.

    Not your ornery onager

This topic actually popped up with my cousin who is an assessor at a major insurer in Ireland. As far as he is concerned once you have declared what engine and modifications are in the car they don't care what tax is on it, including if the disk is valid,

Fair enough, but what are the chances that Joe Thicko will tell their insurance company the truth?

But how does that make it any less of a car? All I'm saying is it'd be very easy to insure it from the off as a 2.5 then get the tax sorted relatively quickly. Its very easy sort both of those problems, whether the seller is "volunteering" the information is irrelevant to the car.

Sure but when a thread is dragged on like this out of pure speculation it starts to get annoying.

Just guessing, wouldnt it low if it was kms for a car of its age?

    2006 car, 117,450 Kilometres

Not too low to be fair, 10k miles / annum.

Clocks in km too, Irish car, quite likely to be in kms as advertised imo.

For what it is I don't think it's great value to be fair, priced about right.

has a tip. replaces front bumper with spurious unpainted version, paints half the car black to suit the unpainted bumper rather than paint the bumper silver. the mind boggles.

Not taxed or tested, needs work and probably rotten underneath.

but the seller seems honest, at a glance the car looks straight and if you're handy with a spanner then its a pretty cool borderline classic.

if you got a bit off the asking price i think that's a cool car.

Looks well but I wish people would at least move their car from where they freshly washed it before taking pictures.

That the same one on BMW Driver?
Been trying to sell for ages and dropped the price if it is.
I want it but I can't help but wonder what has gone so terribly wrong with it that no one wants it.

And it's manual, so rare and lovely! <3

It really is nice, kind of reminds me of the young lad 20 years ago looking at these in mags wishing he could afford the insurance never mind the price tag. However one little flaw is the bloody petrol cap, I hate those sticker things . Also if you are selling it put a price on it.
