Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

keep fit windows in the back :) i've also repaired both window switches, guess i really shouldn't mention that :pac: it has curtain air bags, but no isofix, nice addition thanks. seems you know the car better than i do.

All post 02 Irish Corollas had Isofix anyway. The labels aren't obvious though. I'd be surprised if yours didnt have it.

This fiesta st seems cheap. I may have seen it advertised during the summer months. Must be hard to sell with everyone buying 1.4 diesels.

NCT out and the fact that it's located at Galway City Recovery (they're a breakers) would lead me to be wary..could be fine, but still...nice wee car those ST.

That would go like sh!te of a shiny shovel I'd imagine:P.

Insurance could be a bit of a problem for most though I'm thinking...

    interesting to note with my Corolla ad, i'm not sure if it's;

    - the nature of people who browse the respective sites
    - the creative use of search words in one ad as opposed the other
    - the fact that i linked one in my signature on here

or whatever else, but my adverts.ie ad has had almost exactly the same amount of views (378) in 18 hours online as my donedeal ad has had (385) in 3 days.

Its an awesome ad (on adverts) to be fair

Im looking for a small fast Diesel, but am seeing that Golfs, A3s are all really expensive and impossible to find a fresh one.

Would the below be a good alternative?
I've read the diesel alfas are really strong but not overly sure!
I know the guy selling it (not very well) but he plays golf with another friend of mine, so i know the car is well looked after.

Alfa diesels are good cars if looked after. The fact that he has only had the car a short time and is offloading it is a tad worrying. That said if there is proof of the service history and belt change and you get a good mechanic to give it a once over then it could be good.

They are a very nippy car especially with the 150 unit.
Ti is quite a good version to have but those seats don't look like Ti seats to me?
The diesels would be much more reliable than their petrol counterparts but they suffer from wishbone failure due to the heavy engine.
Not a big deal but listen for creaks over bumps. Knocking nosies could be the ARBS.
Make sure the AC works fine, no black smoke and that it pulls fine in every gear.
Check for timing belt history and that the water pump was changed.
Give it a drive and see how it feels.
Seems to be on the expensive side mind you but if it is as well looked after as it says then I'd offer 5k.

Thanks for the help Bear, i phoned him earlier and he assured me the belt and pump are done with al reciepts from Alfa specialist, h edid actually mention front wishbones and it has had them replaced 2 weeks ago, again reciepts from Alfa specialist.

Im gonna go look at the car tomorrow and have a drive, i know he has a 2nd kid on the way so id assume he needs a bigger car.

^^ I'd wager that that is a Singapore import.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,478 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Aren't Singapore kmph though?

Also that's a low reg number. Doesn't look like an import.

There's over 5 owners on it too. I'd be checking the chassis number carefully tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,506 ✭✭✭Interslice

Front reg look to have been bought seperate to the rear...

They are so you might be right there. It isn't coming back as a UK import either so it seems to be an Irish car.
So it must have been in sotrage since early 2004 never registered as the FL then came out in 2004.
The Singapore imports were usually 2.0 or a v6 and with a high spec.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,478 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I'd be more cynical than that.

Probably the case. Seems an awful long time, though. Fiat Ireland must have found it while hoovering behind the coffee machine in their office. Certainly wasnt a dealer holding on to it, as they only get 3 months to pay for them!!!

The bodywork on that 156 looks very tired for something that has only covered 87k miles.

Well i viewed and drove the car, took my mate who is a mechanic.
Car is in amazing condition both inside and out, although the wheels are tarnishing as per the ad.
Receipts from day 1, even receipts for tyres, bulbs etc.
Car pulled well in every gear and is seriously quick.

I took your advice and made an offer of 5k, the owner declined as he is adamant its the best example on the web, i do agree with him.

So i left him to think about the offer as his only counter offer was €5400 and full of fuel.

Wise move. It may be the best around, but ive a feeling your offer was probably the best he will get too. Give him a week of dealing with chancers offering 1500 and he will come round.
Good luck, Dude, looks a nice motor.

Very good move leaving him with the thought of 5k.
Being an Alfa not many people will spend so much money on one no matter it's condition due to the stereotypes.
I think it's a very fair offer and I'd be very surprised if he declined.

I would have thought €5k is insane money for an 8 year old 147.

Fooked if I'd pay three for it myself.

It isn't cheap no. But I think with that spec and engine and if it has every single receipt from the day it has been bought and all work carried out by a specialist then it could well be worth that amount.

Its probably at the top of the price range, but thats one of the best diesel engines out there today for reliability and a balance between power and economy. There are more economical diesels out there, but fcuk me, you wont outrun a multijet 150 in a light-ish 147.

I have to say your right, ive driven a 170bhp Golf this week also in 07 looking for 9k and have to say the Alfa felt as quick if not quicker.

I cant find anything of the year that's got anything near the combo of power/economy/mileage/history/price.

im not interested in stereotypes, and as it seems the diesel Alfas re fantastic once cared for.

Of course, but im looking at 06 07 Golfs, A3, and both are 8-9k with silly mileage and terrible history.

Its a lot of car for small money imho

It must be so cheap to import if you know what your doing if he can sell that at that price. I'd imagine vrt isn't paid.

They're not making any money on that car I'd say.
For an S14 turbo you're looking between that and €6k brought over.

I'd say there is plenty of genuine cases where lads bring one over but circumstances change in the few months waiting on it.

Just thought it was some bang wallop version from Japan, but I see that any decent 200 makes that cash. But I like this....

It could have been cheap to buy Japan from the beginning. I watched that Trading Up show and they mentioned that in Japan if it doesn't have an NCT then the car is not worth much.
Might be that the car didn't have this NCT and so got it cheap. Bring it over and sell it for a cheap price in Ireland.

They cost nothing there but the price is in the logistics.

It's only been for sale for 54 days that 147. So it'd be reasonable to assume it's way over priced.
