It won't rob you on fuel. At least, if it is, they maybe you should be looking at something smaller. They aren't bad on fuel at all, from experience.

Thats quite expensive for a private sale. Quite expensive for a petrol Mondeo in general to be honest. And I'm not sure if its just me, but I can see a dent on the rear door there, and the arch.

I'm sure I've seen a good few sub €2k bangernomics mondeo platinums this year

Saving of over a grand here for the same car, same year, same length of NCT albeit in lower spec. What does an LX get over Zetec, air con or some such?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,499 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The LX has a less powerful 1.8 engine for a start.

That's an LX steel by the looks of it.

Number plates look government issue and is part of a batch of mondeos registered together

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 251 ✭✭sblythe

Sure what would you want all that power for anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,499 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The zetec is the one to go for. Given how many are out there you may as well be picky.

I enquired about it,she's the 125bhp model, its a zetec on the car, platinum on the book, has a host of extras including cruise control he said, he was willing to drop the price, its his wife's car I was also told

Platinum is basically a Zetec with extras, it was a limited edition end of production job.

Top spec basically??? It has a timing chain and Michelin tyres all round also apparently, it comes with a bit of a history too supposedly, what would you reckon that car is worth max???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,499 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

€2250 would be my top on that tbh.

There are specs like titanium and ghia which have more goodies.

Platinum was not the top spec, it was the mid range spec.

Titanium X was the top spec no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,499 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    ST?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Titanium X and st were both up there in therms of goodies. St stood out more though. Then you have ghia below that which wouldn't have as many toys. Anyway there were far too many different trim levels on the mk3 mondeo, between special editions and what not. All you have on the mk5 is Zetec and Titanium.

overweight, sloppy attempt to cash in on a previous good name?

My favourite z car by a long way,as it happens BTW...I'd have a tt manual as a daily driver but for this country's retarded tax system...

What I mean is the pressed plate on the back, and the laminated one at the front, suggesting that it was changed at some time.

Agreed! The laminated ones look strange at first but you'd get used to it,also more durable

    Here is a funny one

"...The cheapest brand new van you can buy..."

Yeah, that is for sure :pac:, until you put a brand new engine c/w fuel system, cooling system, all ancillaries, exhaust, gearbox and God only knows what else.

And after all that you have an older model, left hand drive van.

    Eh, no thanks..

Could be a good base for something interesting. 2.5 from a focus st? Pity it's left hand drive

I had a 2001 Legacy twin turbo estate for a few months last Summer and it was a great car in general with masses of power and very smooth. Really lovely car to drive but but got rid of it in the end as it was very heavy on juice (20mpg) and felt like it would need a lot of work in the foreseeable future. Replaced it with a Subaru Outback and it is working out great.
