Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Strange ad alright but car is priced well enough I think. Rare car in good condition with nice set of AME Tracers on it.

Its a nice enough car alright, but its priced squarely in dc2 type r territory. I know which one I would go for...

Better than the "Genuine reason for sale", "Mint car" or Real headturner" that most people selling an Audi would say in the ad :D
REASONS FOR SELLING:Mother thinks it's a girls car and won't let me park it outside the house

    Barn Find VW Polo

A "barn find" Polo folks! Nearly 20 years old, needs probably a mountain of work, and it's not exactly desirable!

Is that a carburettor? On a 1996 car?

The way no price is specified is worrying too. Could be really dreaming!

I was expecting it to be zero mileage, parked up since 1997, 150k miles on it though, it's just a clapped out car that someone's parked indoors.

He doesn't specify the price but is already specifying the extras. What else? Opening the barn door €1, lifting bonnet €2, telling you she's mechanically sound €0.50, etc.
He can fix some issues, pre NCT (at extra cost ), throw in some new or part worn tires, deliver it to your door? Private seller my backside.
And the fact that he thinks he has to hide the reg on this very rare and desirable car, there aren't enough  on the internet.
As for the price, yep, POA usually means insane dreamer with mental issues, unless we're talking Ferrari. Otherwise why would you POA a POS?

    edit:
I see this seller has a penchant for "rare and vintage" VW with no pricetag. All with sketchy history and blurred reg and "extras" at extra cost.

I bet he had to hire security and crowd control due to the levels of interest.

My dad has a Van. he taxes it with his heard number as we own a farm and land. As far as I know you need either a farm or a commercial business to tax a commercial so say if you worked in a business. you may get away with it if you got a letter from your employer stating that your require a commercial for work purposes, then you use your employers vat number to tax your commercial..

Yeah, its less about the car and more about who is taxing it - if you are a business then you can pretty much commercially tax anything ( that fits the regulations)

But would you bother? The expense of the conversion, 6 monthly DOE's and possibly an increase in your insurance... Oh, and only being able to sell it on to someone with a vat/herd number.

Haven't seen one of these in years.

It's the first car in my living memory that I can remember my dad having, his was petrol though. A 1985 I think, it was a PNI reg.

Even at the time I don't remember seeing many others, I do remember it as being much bigger than that one looks though but maybe it's just because I was so small. :pac:

Somehow I remember them being very comfortable, or at least by those days standards anyway. They're a very rare site these days though. I haven't seen one in about 15 years. As you say though you wouldn't see that many back then either but they seem to be nearly extinct at this stage, or at least in this country and the uk at least.

I dont really know what the **** he's on about, but i'm pretty sure that's a UK built car, that's a replica TTE spoiler and the wheels are not TRD.

Considering it doesn't have AC then I'd seriously doubt that to be a Jap import. If I'm right as well, the symbol next to the name Corolla would presume that it's either an original Irish car or UK. The Japanese didn't use those symbols to denote trim level.
Talking ****e I would rather say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

They never even sold that body style Corolla in Japan, it was Europen only.

thats a strange one. he doesnt seem to know what hes talking about from the look of the ad, i cant understand why he is advertising it as a jap car because it would mean less people are interested as it would be hard to insure for a young person. maybe jap means it has some stickers and a spoiler :D

%%%i had to remove the link coz im new here :P

    Suzuki Jimny
    http://www.adverts.ie/car/suzuki/jimny/suzuki-jimny-automatic/9510565?task=addToWatchList

Still a bit pricey for what id have in mind for one, might ring if its still there in a few weeks for less

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Why do people even bother with no photos.

Even the cleanest 03 Jimny in the world isn't worth €2750

Might seam cheeky but i was going to keep an eye on it and might gander out for a look if they would take less then 2K. No tax and nct is up in July

Id like to get some AT's and a 2" lift on one and go out with some of the offroad/4x4 clubs. There surprisingly fun

It's very cheap for what it is.

From reading the ad, that one is actually a 2.0 turbo. It's also the only one on donedeal for under €10k, horses for courses.

Edit: more like 2.0 n/a but it says it's running an LSD.
