Your query is still far too vague. The technologies you mentioned have nothing specific to do with virtualisation. Can you give a little more detail on what you are looking for.

You are Talking about VmWare yes ?

if so, you could Install Vmware EXi on a Server and Run a Domain Server and have a File Storage Server on the virtual side of the Server.

security concerns Well with security you can have the Domain Server as a WAN which all Computers inc Back Bone Servers can gain Access to this But with the VmWare Server you can just set it up as a LAN Network and add in the MAC Address to which every Computer you wish to allow gain Access to the File Server also Looking into Server Admin and Group Accessing is all so a must.

If you just want something for Home use and not want to spend the cash well if you want to back up photos and contacts you can use Icloud which gives you a Free 5GB of Data, or you can use Norton Cloud which does the same but that is a paid Service. Really it is up to you.

If you're prepared to spend a few minutes describing what you are trying to achieve, instead of writing half a sentence and hoping I'm telepathic, I'll be more inclined to try and answer.

However if you can't be bothered to put some effort in yourself, don't be surprised if you don't get much of a response. ;)

For the benefit of those not doing homework...

If you don't have complete control of the physical media at all times then encrypt the data.

    It's that simple.

The other concern about security is availability in which case use multiple vendors AND have at least one physical copy of your own off site.

For the paranoid, read up on foreign data protection laws, and the history of the two cooperation between big business and government espionage.

The main issue with encryption on the "cloud" is that is normally only when the Data is at rest....

protecting your virtual storage usualy requires some sort of seperation from your LAN. This could entail either a VLAN or a complete seperate switch network for the storage alone. you could also use mac address filtering, chap authentication or IP filtering.
Unless of course you are using local storage as your virtual storage.
Need more info on what your setup is or what exactly your hoping to achieve.
