I would have thought (seriously btw) that the risk of being killed is probably lowered because everyone drives soooooooooo slllooooowwwww. The risk of your car being battered however, is certainly higher!
I was going to say but I thought I'd be stating the obvious. Minor tips are what you'll get, or stuck at the bottom of a hill but you just go into the nearest field and build a snowman until someone in a tractor drives by and saves you.
    :)
Seriously though - driving on snow/severe ice is a pain in the arse (walking on it literally is a pain in the arse if you're me last year and didn't wear shoes with a proper grip when doing the Christmas shopping :o) and I think it's disingenuous to say it's no big deal. You have to crawl, lots of routes get closed off, it's terrifying going up or down a hill. I live on a hill and last year I was nearly killed driving down it to work one Saturday morning because it wasn't salted/gritted (assumed it would be, since it's close to the centre of Cork and the other routes were salted/gritted). I was driving slowly but my car just slid out of control - miraculously it veered into the side if the road. Had it not, I'd have been in big trouble and crashed the railings below and down steps to a dual carriageway.

Driving slowly up a hill to an overpass another day, my car just skeeted out of control. Even very seasoned drivers who do it for a living experience those terrifying skids.

Right now I wouldn't mind it being a few degrees cooler than this clammy damp weather we're getting, but I'd gladly take this before the big freezes of the last two years. Anyone who says they enjoyed those either faced no hassles, has a short memory or is lying.
Moderate snow for a short while is nice - it was lovely at Christmas 2004 I think - but the last two years were an entirely different story.

or is a bit of a nutcase like me :D
Seriously I love it, I love that everyone helps each other, I love that everyone rings everyone to check they're getting home ok. I love that people are so much more patient with everyone else. And it's just so damn pretty. I'm not saying I loved every minute of it, but like most things in life, there were bright sides and silver linings :)

Oh Whoopsa I wish I had your level of feckin awesome optimism. :o xx
Snow lovely, even cold ok - that kind of crisp, fresh cold is healthy. But dangerous driving conditions and frozen/burst pipes and all that go with it cancels out the nice bits IMO.

Is that from some movie I did not see? it's not the real world.

Dudess I think you and I are snow haters.

'tis, you just gotta open your eyes :)

    This is from a movie though;
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it

I think it depends where you live. We were literally cut off for about 2 weeks last year in Wicklow and declared officially impassable for a while. No heat, no water, shops closed as they couldn't be stocked etc. It was completely and utterly shíte. No amount of people being patient or helping mattered. I'd rather impatient people with the trade off being running warm water to have a shower.

I think I saw a porno that had that line in it :pac:

Anyway, nobody at all knows yet whether we will have snow in Ireland. The long range forecasts can't predict that far into the future. Anybody claiming they know one way or the other is a con artist.

Exactly, and I can't believe that supposedly reputable sources like Met Office UK persist with putting out long range forecasts.

I really hope the snow is as bad as last year and bunches of little sh1t-bags get to pelt cars sliding all over the place - shur it's not dangerous at all, just a bit of fun.

Showing your age there dude. I can't wait to pelt all the old people like you in their stupid cars.
