Try This: (Have not proved all the way through but technically possible)

Not necessarily easy - but free - lots of possible complications starting with whether you have decimal degrees or not and if you have +/- N/W quadrant definitions. Ensure you have Lats before Longs

If you have in decimal degrees - use Garmin POI loader (download off web) to load to Garmin device - use Garmin Basecamp (download from web) to download points from device again - use view menu option to view in Google Earth - save as KML (ensure you only save this data and not everything else you have save already in Google)

If it's a Garmin POI Loader compatible CSV file (here's the format definition http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/creating_custom_poi_files.jsp#csv and here are some examples http://www.poi-factory.com/garmin-csv-file-format) you can use this online converter.

    http://www.poieditor.com/poi_convert/garmin-csv-to-kml/

But as Gary said, if it's come from some other unknown source, maybe you could upload a couple of lines of the file here along with where they're supposed to refer to and we'll be able to figure out what the format is and advise on other approaches if necessary.

Try www.gpsbabel.org for a free program to convert to and from kml and other gps related formats.

its a list of coordinates that i have compiled myself and have saved as a .csv so i could use them as POI's in my sat nav

    not having much luck :(

maybe i'm looking for the wrong thing.

I have a list of co-ordinates saved in excel
    ie
    52.810183,-6.952858

i just so happen to have them saved as a .csv file for my sat nav (co-ordinates reversed for garmin).

now.. what i want to do , is save them as a file, so i can view them all on Google maps in one go.

what is it that i need to do??

(i'm running a mac so some of the sw that is recommended to me wont do)

    You might try here http://www.route4me.com/public_geocoder.php
Seems to be able to take a csv file pf coordiantes and output KML.

Well, the coordinates are in the right format (decimal degrees) for the Garmin CSV spec, but they need to be reversed, i.e. the longitude needs to be first

    -6.952858,52.810183

You can then use the online converter I linked to. The only thing that's missing strictly according to the spec is the name for each point, but that doesn't actually seem to be required (I've tested it).
