AM2 Processor and motherboard

    Hi lads, quick question:

My parents have given me the old family computer to do with as I will, and I think I might try for a home server. Problem is the motherboard's gone and died, so I'm in need of a replacement.

The system uses an Athlon X2 4600, I believe. I'm not at all familiar with AMD CPUs, so I'm not positive on socket compatibility. I think AM2+ boards will work with the CPU (and maybe certain AM3 ones?) but not visa versa.

Any clarification there would be great. Looking to pick up something cheap and cheerful with a bunch of SATA ports.

    Thanks all.
