What kind of standard would you have playing in the O Shea Cup, from pub players to the Willie O Connor's????? Would love to enter (1st timer) but dont want to be standing out for bringing the level down. Also whats the format?
    Cheers.

The O'Shea Cup is considered to be one of the toughest competitions in the country with a very high standard.
Players from pub to international standard compete every year and as can be seen from the Roll of Honour there have been many surprise winners down through the years.
The format is the best of 7 legs 501 - the entry fee is €15 - entries must be in before 7.00pm on Saturday, January 14th.

C'mon, Roy, saddle up Trigger and head for the Sunny South East !

Brilliant stuff considering he's only 14 years of age. This boy has a very bright future in darts by the sound of things.

    Dean Finn – ‘Wonder Kid’
14-year-old Dean Finn from Waterford is the new star of Irish Darts after an exciting performance at the 2012 Winter Darts Gala at O’Shea’s Hotel.
On Day One of the Gala he won the 301 Double Start Singles competition with some unbelievable scoring and pin-point finishing and he eliminated many seasoned players on the way.
In the semi-finals he defeated Kerry’s Sean Marshall 4 – 3 and captured the title with a 5 – 0 victory over fellow Waterford player Kieran Lennon.
He won Round Three of the Ireland Youths’ Championship on the Saturday with a 3 – 2 win over John Jackson {Carlow} in the final and he went on to win the Tramore Youths’ Cup with a 3 – 0 victory over Murty Browne from Tipperary.
And Dean could have made it a clean sweep on the final day in Tramore but he was unlucky to go down 5 – 4 in the semi-final of the O’Shea Cup to the eventual winner Shane O’Connor.
O’Connor won the title for the first time with a 6 – 5 win over David Murphy.
Watch out for Dean Finn – a star of the future !

dartgod congrats on another great weekend of darts it just gets better and better, just two small things it is a pity the youths final was not played out on the floor instead of on the board in the corner it would have been great for the two lads and it was a pity they were not introdused to the hall as they came up on the stage for the presentation, just a few thoughts of mine but as i said well done and really looking forward to cork all ready

Many thanks for the kind comments.

Everybody played their part in making the Tramore Winter Gala such a huge success - - the darts players, supporters and spectators for their exemplary behaviour and those who kept the matches going like clockwork by marking the boards and helping generally.
Sincere gratitude to the management and staff of O'Shea's Hotel for sponsoring the weekend and for looking after us well !

Regarding the youths' final on Sunday it was not played 'in the corner' but on Board 10 which was one of the match boards all weekend.
The ladies' final was played on the same board earlier as was the final of the Youths Players' Championship on Saturday.
I felt that it would have been very unfair to put Murty Browne {who was waiting around long enough for the final} on 'centre stage' where Dean Finn was the centre of attention all weekend - thus, Board 10 was a 'neutral venue' !

Thanks to everybody and roll on April for the Spring Festival.
