now that this game has gone free i was thinking of downloading it, has anyone played it and is it any good? is it w.o.w in the sense that you head off and do missions for people or is there a different approach.

Yes you get missions but most of them will be added to your quest log automatically rather than having to go to a NPC to collect them.
