It's a while away yet but Spurs' game against Everton has been rearranged for January 11th, which means a DGW for GW20. It falls during the January wildcard so I'm sure plenty will use it to take advantage of a nice run of Spurs fixtures in that period:

    GW18: Norwich A
    GW19: Swansea A
    GW20: WBA H + Everton H
    GW21: Wolves H

Everton also have a nice run from mid-December until the end of January so investment there could also pay dividends.

no value in the everton team at the minute. will see what shape cahill is in when he gets back.

Even on a double week, if Everton are playing the way they have been lately, I see little or no value in their squad. I'll want a huge improvement if I'm going to use up my WC to get some of their players in.

I'm likely to have at least two Spurs players, so if anything, my change will be simply bringing in a third.

But as you say, Jan is a long way away. Anything could happen between now and then.

Drenthe is the only one in the Everton team who has shown anything to suggest bringing him in. An assist and a goal in his last 2 games and looks to be on corners too. I brought him in last week as Everton have decent games coming up which they must win

The smart play might be to have 3 Spurs players and possibly one Everton and then use the WC after GW20 to get out the players brought in specifically for the DGW.

That's absolutely the way to go, IMO.

A bit of pre-planning could sort that out fairly easily, I'd imagine, which would then probably put you miles ahead of the masses who used the WC to bring in 5-6 new players from those two teams.

Also; with bad weather and possibly more of that snow we're all getting used to now on it's way, that may not be the only DW we'll get in Jan.

    This is Bendtner, right?

He's played 7 full games, and averaged 5 points per game in those games. That's a much better strike-rate than Suarez, and not much worse than Adebayor, two players worth a lot more who are in a fairly large % of teams.

I can't stand the guy, and think he's fairly useless in real life... but that points per game rate can't be ingnored. It's not great, but it's decent for the price.

And it's not like Sunderland are firing on all cylinders at the moment. To be honest, they're only going to get better over the next few games.

Come to think of it, the tiny bit of research I just did to make this post has made me actually consider bringing him in for Sturridge.

Bendtner! About time someones brought him up in this thread. I've been thinking about bringing him in the past week and have made plans to do just that. This thread is actually loaded with good info, now that I think of it. If I hadn't thought of Bendtner as a striker choice for the next few weeks already, I would have thought of him now after reading these posts. But, as always, my intelect is far superior and quicker to pick up on things than this thread
My reasons for getting him in are simple. He played very well against United being one of them. Other reasons are, Sunderland are progressing very well, getting better every week, they have good fixtures after next gameweek and finally..... Sunderland have pretty much no attack apart from Bendtner after Gyan up and left. Ji is s**t.

Anyways, to continue..... I'm getting in Westwood and Wilkinson instead of Vorm (possibly Krul, haven't decided) and Shorey (have had him for ages, he hasn't played in about 4 weeks, just didn't wanna waste a transfer up until now)

And then after next gameweek, I shall be getting rid of Agbonlahor and Dyer. Probably in exchange for Bendtner and Drenthe.

Now.... since you've heard all of my brilliant plans for the next few weeks... I expect everyone will follow in my footsteps. I will however be taking a 4 point hit this week and next. Although, it'll pay off, so I'm not worried :)

Optimism is king in this game.

Just realised Sturridge has cost me 0.2 in the space of about 10 days. Little bugger.

When this happens, I usually get stubborn and keep the player so he'll make the wasted money back.

This is why I won't do well over the space of a full season.

Also; if I do bring in Bendtner for Sturridge, that'll be 3 Sunderland players in my squad (him, Larsson & Brown). I would have laughed my arse off at anyone with 3 Sunderland players a few weeks back.

I must say that DGW looks very tasty from a Spurs point of view. 2 home games against WBA and Everton? You don't get too many better prospects than that. VDV could really deliver a monster score that week. He might even rival Clint Dempsey, the DGW king. His long term fixtures suddenly look extremely good too as a result. Here's hoping he can stay fit!

Aguero a doubt for upcoming WC qualifiers and possibly newcastle game:

I dont think Gordon will be 1st choice at sunderland, afaik even when fit towards end of last season he was second choice, plus hes made of glass.

You won't be able to use the January wildcard to bring in players for the Everton/Spurs double GW anyway. The January Wildcard must be used after GW20 and the Spurs/everton fixture falls on GW20.

I had 3 Sunderland players until last week. Brown, Sessegnon and Bendtner. Then sold Bendtner for Agbonlahor cos I had a little cash in the bank and I figured he would do well at home to Norwich.
Unsure what to do now though. I sold Bosingwa this week already and bought Jones. Don't know whether to take a hit and get rid of Agbonlahor again. They have Spurs, Liverpool and United all coming up.
Still wouldn't bet against him scoring againt Spurs though. Or Liverpool. Might keep him now that I think about it!!!
Agbonlahors 15 pooints took me inside the boards.ie top 40. :)

Don't have VDV. Left it too late to buy him and now his price is just way too high. Missed the boat big time there.

I'll preface this by saying I've only seen 3 Everton games this season, and the rest were just highlights. So feel free to lambast me for missing the point.

Ol' Jags doesn't seem to be up to much this season, you sure you want to spend 5.4 on him?

I'm all for dropping Bosingwa, I did it myself a few weeks back, but it seems like a step in the wrong direction to bring in an Everton defender.

For that price, I'd be looking at Spurs defenders, or even just a solid Stoke one.

    OR

He will score and clean sheet in every game until Xmas.

    As is life.

if you can afford to get in Begovic i would, two home fixtures coming up. Likewise a cheap Sunderland defender, i think Turner is only 4.3.

I wouldn't be sure of Begovic even starting Stoke's next game. Don't they still have Sorensen?

Begovic was directly at fault for Bolton's first two goals in the 5-0 drubbing by Bolton. Wouldn't surprise me if he's dropped considering the second choice keeper they have (if Sorensen is still there that is).

Yup that happend to me during my WC week (wk3), took out Silva for Nasri, when I actually thought about it I went back to change but there was 100k in the difference, so I said fook it and left it, now he's gone up nearly a million since then and I only got rid of Nasri last week.

haven't really looked to much at my team since internationals are on, thought within next 2 weeks i've got my transfers in place - VDV, Begovic and Allen out, Bale, lampard and westwood in, i think having lamps and bale makes up for not have vdv?

And this, ladies and gents, is why you save your transfers until after the Internationals.

I'll be keeping a keen eye on VDV. Despite having him, I think an injury for a few weeks may work in my favour. I've a free transfer and 1.3 in the bank, so will be free to bring in almost anyone.

Might even consider brining in Walters for him, then upgrade Sturridge with the spare change.

I'm sure we won't get any proper injury info for a few days though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭FatRat

Looks like Agbonlahors injury isn't too serious. Knowing VDV's history, he'll be out for a few weeks I'd say... especially if it's another tear. Looks like he'll have to be shipped out. If Agueros injury is bad enough, I'll get rid of him too, that along with a lot of rotation and never getting 90 minutes is enough reasons to get rid of him. I MAY just get Rooney back in or I might just get Lampard in.

Anyways.. we'll have to wait an see what the injurys are like. But, because of the injurys.... I might have to use my transfers on my midfield/stikers instead of my plan on using them on my defense/keepers.

    Damn !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭FatRat

I actually can't find anything mentioning VDV's injury. Where was the source of the info? I've read a few match review, not one mentioning him going off injured.

sweet - plan was to get rid of Vdv - post before matches above -
alright got rid of Aguero using my free transfer to save money on another player's price going up,
Agb - meh my bench is strong enough to deal with him missing. :D

66 minutes according to this: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/982792/hamstring-scare-for-tottenham's-rafael-van-der-vaart?cc=5739

Will wait to hear more but I've the safety net of two transfers this week at least.

Well, I would hope so too, but I can see a ton of people downgrading Aguero to Ba/Agbon, then switching VDV to Lampard.

Lampard hasn't been a bandwagon so far this season, and with him about to captain England, along with his last few games putting him up with the top midfielders on the transfer page... he's inevitably next to be jumped on if VDV is out of the running.

You're right there! I for one will do this exact thing. If the injuries stay the way they are it's Aguero to Dzeko and VDV to Lampard for me.

I'm still f***ed in my defense/goalkeeper area for this week and maybe next. I'm gonna have to take a 12 point hit or something if I wanna stay afloat in the coming weeks.

But then again, if Aguero is back to full fitness within the next few days, then I'll keep him and focus on my defense.

It's all looking ok so far with injuries anyways. VDV's is being described as a "mild muscles strain" .... And Aguero posted on twitter that his is muscle fatigue and that he's hoping to make it for the match on Tuesday. I'd say there's nothing really wrong with him. Agbonlahor's injury could be bad though. But I was planning on getting rid of him next week anyways.

Lampard is very tempting but it leaves me with a weaker strike force if I get him in.

You're really going away from United with transfers like that. United are gonna score buckets of goals this season. I'd keep one of them. I'd keep Nani because or Rooney's positional rotations. And then you can get any striker you like instead of Rooney.
