    hey all

im in germany about 2.5 years now and im finally returning to ireland.

i have accumulated a lot of gear in this period and need to return with all of it.

there is nothing oddly shaped, its just a lot of clothes, and a few electrics/electronics.

anyone recommend any particular courier, or have any advice on how to go at this in teh safest and cheapest way.

    thanks,
    Ed

Well, first of all, after seeing your sig it might be important to let you know before you come home that nobody uses Bebo anymore.

You should have no problems bringing curry from Germany to Ireland.

Just wear all your clothes on the flight. Ryanair passengers do this a lot.

well Ed you need what we call a drugs mule, that's someone you pay to transport the gear for you at a knockdown price. Have you tried hanging out in bars popular with backpackers? Do this and keep an eye out for a dude with dreadlocks, befriend him, buy him drinks and promise him an easy life for taping a small package to his torso. Make sure you tell him that you've done the run several times before yourself and that security in the airport is nonexistent. The night before he's due over meet him in a hotel and duct tape the bejesus out of him with the gear you have accumulated, if he gets panicky threaten him. Tell him you'll meet him in the arrivals lounge with his money.

    Best if luck!

Good luck... you will need it. I'm working with UPS and sometimes other courier, I hardly got what I want on time and stuff is often damaged (whether the box itself or what is inside). Pack everything very well and, if possible, do not ship fragile stuff.

I use DHL for all my transporting goods to and from Germany to Ireland :)

Well OP when I moved back from London a couple of years ago, I didn't use a courier like DHL ect. I got a removals company that specialised in long distant home moves. There were quite a few companies that covered the UK-Ireland route. So it might be worthwhile checking if there are any based in Germany, that might offer a similar service. I have no doubt you will probably save a fortune choosing this option.

Contact DSV , they have done 3 runs for me from kildare to Austria, they have a huge network, that I'm pretty sure covers Germany.
Try to deal with a guy called Viliam Siska , he's a legend, he has dealt with all of my friends here moving back and forth.

If your extremely nice to him on the phone, he has been known to only charge a nominal 50 quid.

Every other firm which I contacted to move our household furniture over wanted 3-4k and a 4 week turnaround, DSV charged 400, 3 day turnaround and even lobbed my motorbike on the lorry for free. Everything arrived exactly how it left.

    Hi eurotrotter,
I'm going every now and then to Poland through Germany with the van. If you still need transport we could arrange something.

That's fair sound. Do you charge or is it for free? Have a few little things myself that need transporting.
