Building a new PC for BattleField 3 and Cliffs of Dover

Righto I'm looking to build a new pc from scratch for Gaming, BattleField 3 and Cliffs of Dover and with some degree of future proof. I've provide details below based on the questions in the sticky.

1: budget approx €1,000 but I could get a bit higher if I had to.
2: Gaming ( Battlefield 3 and Cliffs of Dover)
3: Don't need a copy of Windows but will be running Windows 7 64Bit
4: Cannot use any parts from old PC.
5: I have a spare 20" monitor running in 1280 *1024. I may change to dual monitors so needs to support this.
6: Need a keyboard, mouse, NIC. Currently no need for a wireless NIC but there should be slots available in case I need one in the future
7: Overclocking. Will if I have to but prefer not.
8: Can pay by Credit Card, PayPal, Bank Transfer, Laser etc basically any legal payment method
9: hmm purchasing over the next few weeks but was considering leaving until after christmas I would get a better deal
10: Hopefully I can build myself (in Galway).

I would also like support for dual graphics cards.

Overclockers have some nice bundles and there is a bundle that battlefield 3 comes free with. Here it is and they also overclock the processor for you as well.

As for your graphics card the following is a bargain. Its crossfire ready to. that mobo I mentioned is crossfire ready to. Asus P8Z68-V Intel Z68

Komplett can be that bit more expensive but they post for free in Ireland so you can save with them.

Mechanical hard drive prices are through the roof right now because of the floods in the factories in Thailand. It doesn't look like they will be dropping for 6-12 months either. As such, you are probably best off getting a decent sized SSD and trying to pick up an external somewhere cheap for storage. Here is what I would go for:

You could also bump the 6950 up to a 6970 which would put you €40 over budget, but a bit more future proof.

May as well get 8GB as it's cheap. I've have a couple of out-of-RAM crashes with 6GB.

580 isn't worth the money for most people. Get 570 or 6950.

580W may not be enough for 580 with OCing.

This CPU is locked for OC, if you don't want to OC better go for cheaper AMD proc. Otherwise look for 2400K or 2500K model.

Ok, he might aswell get 8GB if he wants to, but it isn't a necessity. You don't recommend 6GB of RAM for a socket 1155 system because 6GB RAM would have to run in single-channel mode which would reduce performance.

The 570 and 6950 have better price/performance ratio but seen as the GPU is the most important part in a gaming setup and the thread starter can afford it I would recommend the thread starter to get the GTX 580 seen as it has more performance.

The fastest gaming CPU from AMD that you can get that is cheaper than the Intel Core i5-2400 is the AMD Phenom 2 X4 980BE. The Intel Core i5-2400 is 26% faster then the Phenom 2 X4 980 in games. I wouldn't recommend CPU overclocking to most people anyway so the locked core on the i5-2400 shouldn't really matter unless of course the thread starter wants to overclock. But if so, then I would recommend him the i5-2500K and not AMD, because AMD is currently way slower than Intel in games.
