Apps but not phone for 9 yr old??

My daughter is 9 and obsessed with the apps on my samsung smartphone esp wordfued. With x mas looming I am wondering is there any device (for want of a better word:rolleyes:) that I could get her which has the apps but isn't a phone per se - I think she is a bit young yet, esp for a smartphone not to mention the ££££.

This is a desperately stupid question probably but am clueless and any help would be appreciated!!!

iPod Touch is one good idea - all the features of the iPhone (including apps) minus the telephone bit.

Also look at the cheaper Android tablets - a lot of them are WiFi only. Just make sure they have full access to the Marketplace. Some do, some don't.

When I got my iPhone I gave my 9 yr old my itouch. She loves it.
