Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Importing Personnal effect: Duty and Taxes?

So we moved back in August and shipped a load of stuff, covered under moving allowances and no duty or GST to pay.

We've another 2 boxes still at home that we now want to ship. Contains some tools, clothes, model trains and a few misc "keepsakes" for want of a better term - ie junk the missus wants

Does anyone know is this stuff likely to be liable for Duty and GST? None of it's new, but the trains are all still mint in boxes so look new...

Had a look around NZ customs, most of it seems geared to stuff arriving with you rather than separately after the move...

    http://www.customs.govt.nz/inprivate/sendingitemstonz/giftsandbelongings/Pages/default.aspx

Though our original shipment did not really arrive with us as such but shortly after.
Essentially is the personal effect thing a once off or can it be used more than once is what I'm really asking I suppose

    cheers

the only thing we've ever had to pay extra tax on was something we ordered online that had the invoice information on the outside. we sent six boxes of stuff, a lot of them wedding presents that were brand new, and it was never an issue.

got a birthday card from my parent for my fiance this morning, registered post. Customs opened it (rippping the envelopes to bits) and took the money out of it

the "opened by customs" seal and tape on it. I'll be checking it as soon as their website starts working again anyway
