Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

NQTs & Job bridge

    Hi all,

I am a NQT and have travelled to almost every school in my county armed with my CV and to date have not heard a thing back from any of them.

I'm considering job bridge in order to complete the probationary 300 hours-but to be honest working full time in a school only to earn 50euro a week more than Job Seekers Allowance does not fill me with the joys when you count in all the time, effort & stress associated with this.

Are other NQTs choosing this option? What's the general feeling out there?

    Thanks,
    BB

I don't know about the INTO, but I can tell you that the TUI have directed members not to co-operate with the scheme.

    Hi implausible,

Thanks for your post-I was under the impression that the unions had agreed to allow NQTs (post-primary) to use job bridge to build up their probationary hours-maybe I'm wrong on this??

Possibly. I only posted because it was the recent subject of a TUI letter. The INTO could be different. I'm sure there's a member on here who will know.

I don't think many schools will be co-operating with this. I know the VEC I work for isn't offering positions under the scheme. I am a TUI member.

Well the unions have done little for nqts really anyway from my experience at 2nd level.

The scheme doesn't have legs though in the education sector. It had to work under the premise that a school couldn't fill a post using it so it basically made it a pointless exercise.

It would appear from what I've seen first hand that many primary principals are all for Job Bridge. Beware.

My subjects are Biology & Science-apparently I can teach Maths to Junior Cert Level as well but have no experience of this.

Not the case where we are, thankfully.

Op ,you said "your county" could it be the case that a county a bit away has less teachers?Might be worth considering.

My INTO rep has told us that the union is not issuing a directive RE JobBridge so basically they're letting them get away with it.
I think it's a disgusting proposal but many primary school principals are going to use it. A lot of teaching principals especially.
