I have quite a few short stories and am looking to send them to above for a chance a publication. Can anyone advise as to which papers/mags to send to? My stuff would be mostly women's fiction.

to save yourself a lot of wasted effort, you should research the magazines most likely to match with your style of fiction. this is really important - you have to understand the submission policies of different magazines/journals if you are to have any hope of publication in them. even from a practical point of view - are your stories the right length, for instance? you won't know, unless you know what the submission policy is.

the real advice would be to actually read (at least casually) the magazines you'd like to be published in and get a feel for what they like.

There is a writing competition at www.avogel.ie/story. Have a look at and one of your stories might be suitable.

What Cobsie said is very true and very important.

Take a look at writing.ie and The Emerging Writer blog (this blog is highly recommended). They publish competitions, magazines looking for submissions, etc.

    Best of luck.

The Irish Times has decided to start running Flash Fiction regularly. I don't know if they pay for it, but they'll publish stories that are good enough and shorter than 500 words. You can email stories to flashfiction@irishtimes.com
