Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lansdowne Road is still that to me.

I dont blame Newcastle fans for being annoyed.

Get as much sponsorship as you like, but dont change History.

    .

It's a completely different stadium. It's not like the same stadium with a new name.

So is St James compared to thirty years ago.

All it is is a PR move by the club and Wonga to deflect from the **** storm that is/would have been coming with regards to their sponsorship. It'll more than likely work too.

That's just part of the corporate hard sell. For all intents and purposes it is the same stadium. It's built in the same location, the pitch points the same way and the stadium hosts the same teams as before.

If the IRFU/FAI were so worried about making the slave name stick then they should have built a new stadium somewhere else, rather than on the same plot of land with 100 years of history and memories. I reckon it's a losing battle but hopefully people will keep referring to it Lansdowne Road no matter how much the corporate interests and media try to brainwash us into doing the opposite.

Can't say I was ever fond of having our national stadium named after a former British Prime Minister from the beginning to be honest. Could we not have picked someone who actually did stuff for Ireland from the get-go? As such, learning this as a kid, I never really developed the same fondness for the stadium name as I have with other stadiums. It just seemed kind of...pointless.

I have noticed a trend in the past while around here where 'The Aviva' seems to be used more than Lansdowne Rd , even though most in this bastion of football tradition said they would never use the name.

I'll back it up with examples tomorrow

    Evidence
Between 30/09/2011 and 30/09/2012 the word Aviva was used in 217 posts in the Soccer form
In the same period the words Lansdowne or Landsdowne were used a total of 182 times, Lansdowne 137 times and Landsdowne 45 times

So much a people hate to admint it the corporate giant is once again winning
