Certainly not yet. Time will tell, he's been a bit of a waste so far though!

I don't either, can't remember who put him in one a few pages back but it was straight up retarded imo

Yeah he hasn't hit form atall but there's debates to be had there about the formation/way Liverpool are playing atm.

I said don't judge Downing which I'll stand by

I don't think Carroll should be on the team of worst signings however - 10 calendar months - how many games has he played, he had an injury when he signed and he's only been given a run of games in the last few so putting him on the list of worst signings is fairly premature imo

What about Aquilani? Bought injured, but wasn't he the league assist leader in the second half of the season when he got a few games played?
Definitely a case of bad management.

He was never really given a proper crack of the whip imo - like you said yourself bad management - doesn't equate to him being a bad signing

Had he been given a proper go of his time in LFC then I think he could've been a very good player for us

No doubt the worst left back Liverpool have had in the Premier League is Julian Dicks....in fact a lot of Souness signings were awful....Don Hutchinson and Paul Stewart to name a few.

Rovers 2005 mostly + Russell Payne in goal. Rutherford and McCourt exceptions..

Liverpool fans need to have more Diao, Diouf, Piechnik, Scales, Kewell, Nunez, Gonzalez, Kvarme, Friedel, Traore, Cole, Litmanen, Morientes...

:eek:Litmanen? Friedel? and to a lesser extent Scales? Some of the others you have mentioned were cheap enough not to warrent a "worst signing" and Traore has a Champions League winners medal

Kenny signed Don Hutchison and he was a decent player for us in bad times, defo not the worst signing ever!

Decent players in their own right, but awful at Liverpool. In Litmanen's case, world class elsewhere..Traore is the worst defender I've ever seen at Liverpool. :)

I don't think anyone's denying that Carroll and Berbatov are skilful players, but a lot of people are ignoring the fact that their actual worth was far less than what was paid for them justifying some of the bad signing calls here.

The reason Veron didnt workout is because he wasn't suited to the gung ho type football played in England back then, I for one would love to have him in his prime playing for United now, his creativity and Passing were amazing. He played much better for united in europe and when parternered with Nicky Butt as oposed to Roy Keane. He was the Star player at Lazio when Serie A was agruably a stronger league at the time

look at this for a pass

We have had some awful keepers over the years and it is hard to pick. Itandje did not have any game time to speak of and neither did Hooper but would go for him I think anyway.

How everyone has missed Kvarme and Diomede is beyond me, maybe I am just lucky that I have seen some really bad players in a Liverpool jersey over the years.

    Hooper

    Josemi
    Kvarme
    Pellegrino
    Traore

    West Ham.
Really struggling to remember bad defensive signings for us so I've gone for a 3-4-3. Notable omissions up front are Savio, Iain Dowie, Titi Camara, Yaniv Katan, Kepa Blanco, Davor Suker, Lee Chapman

Sasa Ilic (Played once. Conceded 4. Never played again).

    Gary Charles (Basically an alcoholic)
Gary Breen (The 6-0 thrashing at OT still gives me the shivers)
Herita Illunga (Very good first season but has been woeful ever since)

Sergei Rebrov (Even in the Championship he was $hite)
Nigel Quashie (Had been relegated 4 times and somehow we brought him in in the middle of a relegation battle)
Kieron Dyer (Got a broken leg in his first or second game and was never the same)
Joey Beauchamp (Never played because he didn't like the traffic from Oxford to London)

Marco Boogers (Found in a caravan in the Netherlands supposedly after he went AWOL)
Robbie Keane (Don't care how good he can be for Ireland. He was $hit for us last season and was a big reason we went down)
Benni McCarthy (Labelled Karen Brady as "The devil with a set of tits". Brady replied "at least I'm meant to have tits". Zing)

The funny thing is, a lot of our worst signings were made by the wheeler and dealer himself, Harry Redknapp.

I chose Itandje just because of the Hillsborough thing.

I think Diomede had a hard time, only played 3 times. If his over-head goal wasnt disallowed(incorrectly) then he could have been a success.

And i loved Kvarme, i had his name on a jersey :o

    Birmingham City

    Kingson

Giovanny Espinoza - Alex Bruce - Ulises de la Cruz

Jay O'Shea - Daniel De Ridder - Michel - Jesper Gronkjaer

Rowan Vine - Marcus Bent - Garry O'Connor
Only included permanent signings. If I was including loans, players like Hleb, Derbyshire, Quincy, Nigel Quashie, Scott Sinclair, Kemy Agustien, Bentley, Taino, Djimi Traore, Hameur Bouazza, and Carlos Costly would certainly be in and around the worst team.

Should Tino Asprilla not feaure on this somewhere? might be mistaken but didn't his arrival and he rejigging of the team to accomadate him coancide with their disasterous run in to the title race of (was it) 1997 -"i'd luv it if we beat them" and all that.

Also re:Carroll. IMO the 'signing' of him overall was excellent business. Basically Liverpool replaced Torres with Carroll + £15m....neither player has been worth a ****e since but when you factor in that £15M plus the £65K odd per week/£3m odd per year saved in wages then it was overall a good deal for them!

Give a long hard look over some of the players we've signed in the last 10-15 years, Downing isn't half as bad as Mark Gonzalez, Nunez or Cheyrou

    Ridiculous call imo

I wouldn't have Downing in there, however it could certainly be argued that while Mark Gonzalez wasn't a great player, signing him didn't really cost much, or have any major negative impact on the side. Downing however was quiet an expensive signing, he was overpriced and his signing cost the possibility of a far better winger

As I said, I wouldn't have included him, but I can see the merit of including players on the basis of a price to impact ratio, as oppose to including players based purely on the impact they made (or there lack off)

Similarly, while Aqua could, and probably should have been a big player for the club, the fact is he was signed for around the 20m mark, and looks as if he'll be gone for 5 without making an impact. That to me ranks as a far worse signing then the likes of Keane, Gonzalez, Cheyrou or Biscan

Tosic never got a run in the team and isn't a bad player at all imo.

I don't know why we kept Owen for another year but he did enough last season to justify a free transfer.

I agree but you have to fill the blanks. I could have named a 5-aside team with fly goalkeeper and no bench, would have been easier!

    Hugo Viana - Newcastle
signed for 12 million-played 39 times in his first season (mostly as a sub), then went on loan to Sporting Lisbon ,then came back to Newcastle to fight for his place and never made the subs bench :)

    Bosko Balaban-Aston Villa
Signed by John Gregory for 6.5 million from Zagreb, played 40 minutes for the first team in a uefa cup tie and 5 minutes in the carling cup scoring 0 goals.

The only useless signings i can really think off the top of my head :)

    Nail on the head territory.

    1.Sasa Ilic

    2.Gary Charles

3.Wayne Quinn. Quinn was charged with filling Rufus Brevett's boots in October 2003 after Brevs suffered a serious injury. He failed miserably, and when he was released in January 2004 the Hammers were sitting in 10th Position in the First Division. His repalcement, Jon Harley, faired little better(save for his goal against Sheffield United), and he too was released.
I selected Quinn over Illunga on the basis that Illunga actaully contributed to the team for aloms 15 Months of his Hammers career. It all went downhill after his injury in January 2010.

    4.Gary Breen

5.Jonathan Spector. With respect, he played well at Center-Mid, and spent most of his WHU career at Full Back, however, he played a number of games at Center-Back, each one as dire as the last. The man had no capabilities as a defender, and he was responsible for more feck ups than I care to remember.

    6.Nigel Quashie

7.Savio Nsereko. The reason I select Nsereko is due to the shenanigans I call on his transfer to WHU. He was NOT signed for £10Million. He was NOT a striker. He was a light-weight winger who lacked skill and strength. He arrived with fanfare, in an attempt to appease a seething fanbase after the departure of Craig Bellamy. He turned out to be rubbish, and was used as a make-weight. Im unsure if he has re-appeared after he allegedly disappeared earlier this year.

    8.Kieron Dyer.

    11.Joey Beauchamp

    9 Benedict McCarthy

    10. Marco Boogers.

Seriously, Silvestre played 250 games for United over ten years at a cost of £4million. Never a world beater but fúck me not a chance he should be there. Again as pointed out Blanc started poorly but went on to play 50 games for the club.
