Shock jock Howard Stern is in "serious negotiations" to join America's Got Talent as a judge, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Stern, 57, would take home a $15 million payday per season if he signs on to the NBC reality competition series, according to the newspaper.
The radio host would take the place of Piers Morgan, who announced his exit from America's Got Talent Wednesday to focus on his CNN show. Stern would join Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel at the judges table.

    :D

I guess it's because I tend to think of radio shows as a local thing. (Even though I listen to Radio Kerry from time to time.)

I assume in Ireland you download the shows ... or do you have satellite radio over there?

You do know there was a very succesfull movie about stern back in 97.. "Private Parts", made liek 14million dollars in its opening weekend... so yeah, lots of people all over the world know who he is....

    DAB radio

I'll have to go over to Wikipedia. Is that Ireland's version of satellite radio? You hear the show live?

I know. I've seen it. I don't know if I would call it very successful. It was in theaters for 3 weeks and made less than 42 million dollars.

Well it cost 20m to make, and was ranked 1st, 3rd and 5th in 3 consecutive weeks, and the 41 million was only domestic earnings..... I'd call that a success.

Either way we know about him lol. And if he does join the show it will be awesome!

I suspect Simon is using Howard to generate a lot of free publicity for the show. I doubt Howard will end up joining the show.

I'm listening to Howard right now, by the way. He's interviewing/psychoanalyzing Chaz Bono.

You never know, he could end up on it for some international publicity for himself. I'm sure if he is approached he'll be told its viewed around the world

I see one group are again trying to stop the man - this time from being a judge: http://www.digitalspy.ie/ustv/s67/americas-got-talent/news/a351004/howard-sterns-possible-americas-got-talent-role-draws-protests.html
A parents advocacy group has urged America's Got Talent co-creator Simon Cowell not to add Howard Stern to the show's judging panel.

The radio DJ is rumoured to be replacing departing America's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, but has so far refused to confirm or deny whether he is negotiating to join the series.

America's Got Talent creator Cowell teased that Stern could help revitalise the talent competition if he decides to join the judging panel with Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel.

The Parents Television Council (PTC) has now urged NBC and America's Got Talent producers not to hire Stern, who has been a longtime target of the group's protests.

PTC president Tim Winter said in a statement: "If the rumours are true that NBC is considering the addition of radio shock jock Howard Stern to the America's Got Talent judges' table, the result will be the alienation of tens of millions of advertising dollars.

"Such a move smacks of desperation by the once-proud peacock network. Any short-term buzz from Stern's shock value will result in a longer-term decline as families abandon the show for more suitable programming."

Winter also urged NBC to consider the responsibility they have to uphold moral values for the families who watch America's Got Talent.

"Bringing Stern to a programme like America's Got Talent is decidedly a bad business decision," PTC president Winter added. "We hope the programming executives at NBC realise it before Stern has an opportunity to sucker-punch families who tune in for a talent show."

The PTC previously criticised Cowell's other reality competition The X Factor USA in September when contestant Geo Godley was shown stripping on stage.

Well to a certain extent, the film had to attract a viewing audience on its own merit so if they were selective in their picking of moments of his career, it would come as no surprise to see only a few colourful parts of his life - where there's been many.

    http://www.digitalspy.ie/ustv/s67/americas-got-talent/news/a356175/howard-stern-replacing-piers-morgan-on-americas-got-talent.html
Howard Stern will replace Piers Morgan as a judge on America's Got Talent, it has been announced.

Stern confirmed rampant rumours that he planned to join the NBC reality series on his Sirius XM radio show on Thursday (December 15), when his agent Don Buchwald presented him with his America's Got Talent contract on the air.

America's Got Talent will move its live shows from Los Angeles to New York to accommodate Stern's morning radio schedule.

The controversial radio host vowed to lead fellow judges Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel in finding America's next great superstar.

Stern said: "This nonsense of Howie and Sharon putting through less-than-talented people has got to stop. Under my administration there will be no Frank Sinatra impersonators winning for the year.

"If people think I'm the crazy man, I am not. I am the voice of reason… Goofy acts are not going through."

Stern also said that he will emulate former America's Got Talent judge Morgan, who was known for being harsher than Osbourne and Mandel.

"I'm going to be Piers [Morgan] on steroids," Stern vowed. "It's going to be a no-nonsense judge... I'm going to go there as a serious judge... It's gonna be something else... I am very excited."

NBC also confirmed Stern's hiring on Thursday, with the Peacock Network's president of late-night programming Paul Telegdy welcoming Stern to the NBC family.

Telegdy said: "Howard Stern's larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to America's Got Talent starting this summer.

"He's a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success."

Stern previously worked as a radio host for NBC, but was famously fired for being too controversial in 1985.

America's Got Talent judge Mandel reacted to the news by tweeting: "I cannot wait. Let the judging begin... Welcome to the party [Howard Stern]."

As rumblings of his America's Got Talent hiring began in November, Stern suggested that he was the ideal choice to replace Morgan because of his 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry.

America's Got Talent co-creator Simon Cowell publicly backed Stern for the role, saying: "Howard brings a kind of chaos to everything. But I like chaos."

Reports of Stern potentially joining America's Got Talent drew protests from moral values group the Parents Television Council, who accused NBC of desperation for even considering the radio host.

His predecessor Morgan departed America's Got Talent last month in order to focus on his CNN chatshow.

America's Got Talent returns to NBC in the summer of 2012.
