Do you usually get in the front or back of a taxi?

I dont feel comfortable in the front so I always sit in the back, I notice that most people that sit in the front are men!

So do you usually sit in the front or back?

I always sit in the back if I'm with people, always sit in the front if I'm on my own. I quite like to chat to the driver.

A lot of girls I know say this is a no-no, and that I should sit in the back because it's "safer". Which is ridiculous.

I get in the back like a bonafide Hollywood moviestar. I find blokes who get in the front usually have some sort of inferiority complex, like they have to "compete" with the driver etc.

Only really happens with Dublin taxi drivers. They are the most whinging race of people on the face of the earth.. it's as if there's a factory in Dublin that clones Joe Duffy, teaches them how to drive, then gives them a licence to taxi people around the streets of the capital.

I always sit in the front. Even when I'm with a group of people. I'm usually the most sober out of the lot and feel bad for the taxi driver having to listen to a load of drunk people. You do sometimes end up paying most of the fare if you sit in the front which is a pain...

I don't understand why you would be scared to sit in the front...there are surely scarier things out there!

Unless obviously you are getting a taxi with another person. You would sit with the other person.

I've heard alot of people say they rather sit in the back when alone. Which just screams of ignorance. Taxi chat is all bollocks anyways. Its just being civil with someone ... and this is coming from a person who thinks they are all a bunch of ripping off gits.

Funny when you go to get in the front and the poor driver has to chuck all the stuff on the front passenger seat into the back somewhere to be sorted out later. Mwaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaaa

There are loads of ways to get out of paying if you're in the front.

1. tell the taxi driver to stop abruptly go the lads have me covered and bolt before the people in the back know what's happening.

2. Before the taxi stops ask him the fare will be roughly and then ask the people in the back for x each, their fares together should equal the total cost.

3. Pay for the taxi yourself and say you will get the money back off them inside, reclaim drinks over the course of the night far in excess of the value of the taxi.

These all work better if the people in the back are drunker than you, and even better if you are passengers in a minibus.

After listening to a mother ,on moaning Joe's show ,telling how her son was badly beaten and dumped at the side of the road (allegedly by a Taxi driver) I dont think I will sit in the front seat of a taxi ever again !

I always get in the back. Im in there to be driven to where I want to go, not to be the taximan's pretend friend, and make bull**** small talk for 20 minutes
as the driver tries to sweeten you up to give him a tip!! I never tip either, by the way - got screwed enough during the taxi strikes, one time with 2 screaming kids at the airport at 2am on a monday morning and a taxi strike on. I promised at that time I would never engage with a taxi man again!!

When I get the local firm taxis from train station to boyfriend's house, especially when I was living here too, I always sat in the front, I knew a lot of the drivers after a while anyway.

When I get a taxi in the city (usually from the city centre to my flat) I always sit in the back.
