My friend in Boston is just sending it on to me now.
My first impressions are that it's beautiful and much better than Wrecking Ball IMO.

Currently listening to Hunter of Invisible Game and it's brilliant. Just Like Fire Would is great too.

    Yep!

Downloading it now, cant wait to hear it properly! When does it get released over here actually so I can purchase a copy legally?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭Zardoz

I like what they have done with the studio version of American Skin (41 shots ) on the new album ,its an absolutely brilliant song .

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭Dmartin22196

Yeah 41 Shots is a studio version, its very good. Also the new version of Ghost of Tom Joad is very good, its rocked up. Definitely a rage against the machine influence in there! All and all a good album so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 31,900 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

I didn't realise these were all old songs. Must be why I prefer it to Wrecking Ball already!

Well I caved in and 'borrowed a copy from a friend'. What dose it say about me that when I hear new Springsteen songs I think how much better they will sound live?
This is a bit of a placeholder album, old songs and reworkings of two well known numbers. Not exactly the start of something new, more tidying up of past stuff.
Having said all that, it's a good album. The 2 reworkings add to the songs, the others are good songs in their own right and deserved to be on an album though you can see how they were hard to fit onto any the post Tom Joad LP's.

The mix is less bombastic than either The Rising or Wrecking Ball and comes closest to the early E Street LP's in places.
Yeah I like this a lot and can't wait to hear some of these live.

    Roll on Jan 14.

absolutely loving Tom Joad........quite similar to the live version that came out on ITunes with the live magic special download........still, im liking the heavier element Morello brings to it......

Sun comes every morning but it ain't no friend
I get dressed and I go back again
The rain keeps on falling on twisted bones and dirt
I'm buried to my heart here in this hurt
Fire keeps on burning, you're waiting in the cold
    Down in the hole

Dark and bloody autumn pierces my heart
The memory of your kiss tears me apart
The sky above is turning, the world below's gone gray
I thought that I could turn and walk away
Fire keeps on burning, and I'm working in the cold
    Down in the hole

Radio's crackling with the headlines, wind in the phone lines
The sun upon your shoulder, empty city skylines
The day rips apart, a dark and bloody arrow pierced my heart

I got nothing but heart and sky and sunshine, the things you left behind
I wake to find my city's gone to black
The days just keep on falling, your voice it keeps on calling
I'm gonna dig right here until I get you back
Fires keep on burning, I'm here with you in the cold
    Down in the hole

    Down in the hole

How was this ^^^ left off The Rising?

I was thinking this one was from The Rising era, is that a fact?

I was thinking the same thing Dr Nick!
Easily one of the strongest songs on High Hopes, It has a vibe similar to I'm On Fire, with the droning synths and Johnny Cash like drum beat. It also has similar elements to some of the more ambient stuff on The Rising, like Paradise or Your Missing.

Really great track, I'm glad its finally seen the light of day, Bruce sure wasn't short of great songs for The Rising, it'd be pretty tough to swap any of the songs on that album.

There is a LTD edition version of "High Hopes" as well.

It comes with a DVD of "Born in the USA" performed in its entirety from London last summer.

Available from CDWOW for €12 with free shipping.

I may be way off with this but ill give it a go anyway..........

I reckon that Just Like Fire Would could be a massive hit single if marketed rightly.......

Very radio friendly, and also sounds almost contemporary enough to get Mainstream Pop stations to play it.

Im stuck listening to FM104 in work all day (kills me!) , but i can easily hear it being played on it in my head......

    Just a thought!

You know it's already been a hit in 1986 for Australian punk band The Saints, who wrote the song.

I agree tho Spingsteen and the E-Streeters w/Tom Morello nailed this one, it sounds as plush as some of the more anthemic moments on Magic.

I dunno how big of a hit this could be or if the band would push for that as its a cover and an already successful song, having said all that it's a mighty fine cover and it'll definitely go down a storm in a live setting.

Indeed i do.......yeah, im not sure whether big singles appeal to the boss anymore...........but can still see it getting big airplay if it is pushed in the right way!
