i think we could all do with a few extra shillings to get through christmas:D so me and my friend who are both in college at the moment and dont have much to be doing said we would get a small business going again for the next few months,we know where there is a nice big yard and shed right on the edge of a very very busy road in the middle of the town,we would be well know around the town as we provided a very good maintenance service through the past summers so they be no problem at that side of it and have a good head for the wheelin and dealin:rolleyes:
Now this idea can apply to any 1 across the country and in any town any 1 can try to get the same business going, what im putting out there is what would be the best things to sell,we were thinking of a coal yard and delivery service:confused: as this winter is going to be very cold from the research we have done:cool:but not only that but u could also sell trees, road salt, holly, etc
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! any 1 else have any ideas on what else might be catchy during the winter months to sell out of this place if we take it:D

and of course good luck to any 1 else that trys this business idea,it might be the start of something good for some person:D

Your post was tough to read, but I made it though the whole thing without going into a diabetic coma!

So if you are intending to rent a yard, firstly make sure the owner agrees that its just a short term lease - also that its accessible and on a good road with plenty of passing traffic - a yard up an old laneway will be cheap, but not much good. You will also need to sort your insurance for public liability.

Do a leaflet drop in the doors of your local area - selling coal is all about price - if you can do five X 40 kilo bags for around €50-€60 delivered (and still break even) you should get plenty of response.

Anyone buying a decent amount of coal will be well versed in the best local deals, so you really should have started this a few weeks ago - got your name out. Nonetheless we do have a hard winter ahead. Bear in mind - if it turns out to be mild you could get caught with your trousers round your ankles and nothing to show for it. Also if its slightly mild you might end up still in stock in February and demand rapidly declining

Coal, Slack, Logs, Turf, Sticks, Kindle, 'Ecologs', Wood Pellets, Firelighters, Gas Cylinders, Propane, "Emergency" Kerosene Barrels etc. "Your one-stop, Fuel Shop"

Live Trees & Holly will also sell well but, again you should have started weeks ago!

Salt, grit, snow shovels, bumboards, sleighs/sleds. If you have the space/money you could also get a few cheap snowboards - you'd never know you might get someone willing to part with the cash!!

Also have some novelty gear on - a "Pre-packaged Snow Man - Just add snow" Two lumps of coal, a (plastic) Carrot, A pipe, some pebbles, a hat & Scarf and two twigs for the arms - pop them in a plastic (polythene or polypropelene - not a carrier) bag, staple a packaging card on the top on flog them for 9.99.

The only thing is you are going to have be fairly on the ball - have everything just-in-time or otherwise you'll be ****ed come feb/march.
