Has anybody here installed a floating staircase ?
DO you know the price of it ?
Has anybody tried to install one themselves ?

    out of what?
is this a new house or are you retro-fitting?

re installation: if your asking these questions - in the manner you have asked:
Has anybody here installed a floating staircase ?
DO you know the price of it ?
Has anybody tried to install one themselves ?
then I would not recommend you install one yourself;)

have you mentioned this to your arch. there is structure and regulations to consider.. see here please note there are new stairs regs due shortly

If the price is prohibitive, i wont even be mentioning it to the architect.

15k + for central steel spine, cantilevered solid timber tread with open riser and glass balustrade with very simple timber handrail.

Crikey!! I assume that includes the installation ?
I think i will be going the standard boring stairs.

That's a high end finish, get rid of the glass and the cost comes down a lot. Also a more traditional timber stairs with stringers either side would be a lot cheaper. Depends on what you're thinking of when you say floating stairs I suppose. The price I mentioned above could be for something completely different to what you have in mind. Any pics of what you're thinking of?

there are few different options if your doing a floating stairs, especially if your only building. the best otion i personally believe is to fit steel supports into blockwork on one side. have your threads machined to clamp round this. i think you need to put in the glass balustrating to give a better effect off the floating aspect however there are cheaer otions. 15k would be about right but you can vary a lot of the asects to ull this back to below 10k. straight flights are going to be less than anything with a turn or change in direction.

Does anyone have recommendations for installers of "floating stairs"?
I am talking to 2 companies at the moment, but would like to get a 3rd price.
I'm looking for someone to supply and fit a steel stairs with timber treads and glass balustrades, not just a steel fabricator.

    Thanks,

    Bb

We got one for less than €9,000.
One flight is cantilevered, the other flight isn't. Price included steel, timber, steel balustrade with timber handrail, landing, steps boxed with timber, etc.
    Looks stunning.

Please see correction in post #13.

    Hi icbarros,

Could you send me a pm with details of who did that for you? We're looking at glass balustrades, so that will probably cost a bit more.

    Thank,
    Bb

The more expensive quote we got was €17k (excluding VAT!)...
