Among generations born maybe... the late 60s onwards, it's probably more likely you'd get hassle moreso for being religious than for being atheist. In non rural communities anyway.

Although on Boards, to some, if you're an atheist full stop, you're smug apparently.

I often read complaints about shows like Coronation St not having enough minority characters as it's set in Manchester. But with 5 Asian characters, 2 black characters and 2 mixed race characters out of a cast of about 60, it's technically ever so slightly over-representative of minorities.

And I suspect that even for Manchester the fact that all most every household has an immediate family member who is LGBT is a tiny bit unbelievable. But then again so is the amount of adultery, murder, serious accidents, Christmas day births, false imprisonments, etc :D

There's just the 4 gays in Corrie I think, really it's 2 main characters and their partners. Emmerdale has a lesbian couple who just moved in, the gay male couple ended when one died. :pac: Eastenders just has the 2 gays lads (one of whom's a twofer) and Phil Mitchell's son. If anything there may even be an underrepresentation of gays in UK soaps but there HAS to be one at all times. :pac:

Ugh, showing a side of myself here I try to keep hidden. :pac:

I believe strongly in a complete British withdrawal from this Island, and the establishment of 32 county Socialist Republic based on the 1916 proclamation
I have always supported any republican groups that have taken actions in name of the above.

To add I dont support Sinn Fein, I believe they have abandoned traditional republican values and sold out hundreds of men and women who gave their lives or served time in British and Southern prisons for the Republic

I never understood why having that opinion is so taboo and even alot of Irish people are hostile to it

But its my opinion and wont be changing

My heart wants a united Ireland, but not my head - it would likely lead to terrible problems. It's not the fault of decent unionists that their ancestors settled there hundreds of years ago - and it's only right that their tradition be respected also.

It's a difficult situation I know, but whatever outcome is the most peaceful one is all I'd wish for.

When I was hanging around with Mr Bowie, I wouldn't go near anyone younger than 19, or over 19.

Just 19 year olds. Happy days.

Have you ever considered the social, financial and political repercussions of a united Ireland? It's a bloody stupid idea, that's why it's so unpopular.

How so - did you fall on his penis? And for all the so called single mother - really 2/3/4 times god what are the odds??!!! Stop subsidising people to have children, its f`ucking ridiculous.

Even on this thread I`m sure I`ll be slatted for saying this but I really believe it.

And just an opinion but most Doctor and South Africans seem to be arrogant twitts.

There are 6 LGBT characters right now, Sophie, Sian, Sean, Marcus, Hayley and Amber. The Daily Mail and it's ilk have been going nuts lately about it. What's a bit unrealistic isn't the amount of gay characters, it's Manchester - if anything there would possibly be more. But that nearly every family has at least one LGBT immediate family member, like Todd Grimshaw, Ted Nugent and James Barlow. Personally I think anything that gets the Daily Mail reader's knickers in a twist is a good thing and wouldn't be surprised if that's why Corrie brought Todd and his new boyfriend home for a visit in the middle of the 'controversy.'

Some of them are just ridiculous. Friend of a friend of someone I know has 3 kids by 3 fathers and she's not 20 yet. Was pregnant again within 3 weeks of having the last kid and say she doesn't know who the father is.

do you have any opinions most people you know seem to disagree with?

    Absolutely and always hated "Friends".

Also Jamie Oliver - think he is over-paid fellow who shamelessly indulges in self-promotion (successfully).

Id be broke and live in an Ireland United rather then this puppet British colony we live in at present

Cutting lone mother benefits won't solve the problem of women from neglectful backgrounds lacking education having kids - all it will cause is the kids being further deprived.

A lot of people have more important things to be worried about than a political ideology - such as providing for their kids. And I doubt you'd really like ireland to be more screwed for money than it already is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 777 ✭✭✭H2UMrsRobinson

    1. Not unpopular I would imagine, but I hate how most threads on AH at some stage will deteriorate into an English/British/Irish/Northern/Occupied Territories bulls**t slagging match completely unrelated to the thread title. I'm sure Britain would love to cast off the millstone round it's neck that is Northern Ireland and have they not agreed to give it back as soon as you can all agree on it ? Until then give it a rest, it's so boring...!

    2. I am completely against this complete and utter devotion and adoration we are meant to show for our children. We should keep them warm, fed and housed, raise them with good social skills and ethics and provide them with love - beyond this we are not obliged to provide any more and I will not alter my life to accommodate any child.

    3. If I want to have a crafty fag when I'm pregnant then I will. I may even have a couple of glasses of wine with it.

    4. If I mistakenly fall pregnant (anyone who thinks mistakes/accidents don't happen is delusional) and want to abort the child then I should be able to of my own accord. If I'm not ready for a child why should my fully fledged life be sacrificed for the life of an unformed, unnamed and unwanted foetus.

    5. Tayto crisps suck !!!

Ah I love The Dubliners, they're far and away my favourite band, but there are plenty of amazing traditional bands around. I wouldn't call The Dubliners trad anymore, more folk.

More recently: Lunasa, Beoga, Dervish, Deanta, Teada, Danu, KAN, Flook, Mise, Grada, Four Men and A Dog. And then bands like The Bothy Band, Planxty, De Dannan, The Chieftains etc.

To call them shíte would be utter bollocks.

Exactly. I'd rather have few quid to give my kids a decent upbringing than have the north as part of Ireland.
Anyway, the united ireland folk always ignore the little problem of all people up north that don't want it.

I used the ethnic demographics of Manchester to compare the ethnicity of the Corrie Cast. Weatherfield, where Corrie is set, is a fictionalised version of Salford. The demographics there, as of the 2001 census, are 96.1% white, 1.4% Asian and 0.6% black.

I'm not sure what the LGBT demographics are, but as parts of it are only 2 tram stops from Canal St, and the UK has had a house price boom which has caused ripple effects from popular areas, Salford possibly has a much higher LGBT population than many other areas of the UK.

If you lost your job, then when your savings ran out you still hadn't found another job, would you still feel that way even though when you were working, your taxes contributed towards the social welfare fund?

They wouldn't have been paying taxes into a social welfare fund as it wouldn't exist...

Anyone who says todays music is a load of grabage, is a old **** who either only watches MTV and sees mainstream bull**** or someone who is just small-minded. People might say music was grea tin the 80's and that's probably true, but i bet there was alot of bad music with that aswell. So don't diss today's music inless you actully know about it.

But in relation to chart music specifically it is a load of balls. Chart music in the 80s was generally of much higher quality. I'm watching Grace Jones on an old Top of the Pops right now - nothing like that in the charts today. Of course not all music is rubbish now, there's lots of brilliant stuff - but chart/pop music on the radio is obscenely bad, taken over by X Factor muck.

These parents are pure negligent because they forget to bring the remote control for these kids, or the batteries (CR2032) are empty. Some parents even dont bother to send off for the remote using the voucher that comes out after the child is born. It would drive you mad really the remote is the handiest thing ever and its free except you have to claim it using a voucher. Such laziness is inexcusible tbh
