Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone who listens to the David Harvey show on 4fm should be neutered. Anyone who actually calls in should have their entire extended family wiped out.

I think students should have to pay fees- and I am a student! It'll stop them doing stupid meaningless courses that are of no benefit to anyone! And the money saved should be put into sicence and technology because these areas create more jobs than a stupid degree in english!

hey it's just an opinion.. isn't that not the point of this thread...
Yeah but people are allowed to discuss opinions brought up, or the thread wouldn't be much fun.

Speaking as a science student (which according to you is a worthwhile course), it seems to be a trend that the people who say "yeah I'm a student but I think fees should be brought in" are people who can afford it. Especially when they don't mention means testing or their stance on the grant.

Even if fees were kept out, I wouldn't be able to afford college without the grant.

As for arts being stupid, how do you think the world would be without educated journalists, writers, or historians? To name but a tiny fraction of the important jobs filled by arts students.

I don't feel that anyone has any natural obligation to contribute to society in any way. I agree that society and civilization makes sense but the goal posts are continually moved and therefore erode our freedom.

I believe that humans have no more significance then any other creatures that has evolved on this planet. I also believe that we have the same natural entitlements as any other creature. A persons value is not their contribution to society.

Religion, good and evil are just the natural rules that have evolved to maintain order and control in society and people will always endeavor to corrupt any organisation or agreement for their own means.

I also believe that it does not matter as its all random bollox to keep us busy while we survive and procreate like any other organisms on this planet.

It is true what you say- it just winds me up wen people apply to do courses that they don't really have any interest in just because they want the whole social life side of 3rd level education. You can get that without doing a degree! I just think that most of these people float through the couple of years and get nothing of major value out of, ending up with a qualification and still not having a clue what they're going to do with it.

I'm just finished my undergrad in chemistry, where i worked everyweekend and any free evening I could to put myself through it. I wasnt entitled to the grant and recieved no financial support from my parents- it was my ideas to go to college, so I should be the one that pays for it. And now I'm doing the same again for my masters.

The grant is a great benefit to anyone that's entitled to it, but i think it should be managed better, like having to provide receipts before getting the next installment, so that it can only be used for transport, books, and other college expenses- and not holidays or drink.

    TL-DR
Probably just jealous that i had to pay my own way through college and couldnt afford to go out and party!

Actually I agree with you there, I have seen some horrible misuse of the systems in place to help people who need it.

America is a fascist empire, content on inposing its will on the world, and exploiting resources at the expense of all on this planet

Its a country with no race, language, culture or unique heritage,
Just collection of different races thrown together into commercialist melting pot

    A sh*thole,

While dont like see any die over politics

They had 9/11 coming to them for along time beause its 9/11 every day in the middle east due to their foreign policy
While I don't agree with "America, fuk yeah!" drivel, it is not a fascist empire. E.g. I'm sure Jewish immigrants from nazi Germany, an actual fascist state, would ever so slightly prefer America.
And it's too big to be referred to as a sh1t-hole.
Why are you leaving out words?

People with nothing better to complain about than first world problems like the overrepresentation of homosexuals and/or nonwhite's on television soap operas are either pathetic little whiners with a terrible persecution complex or have recently been unsuccessful applicants for acting jobs ?

Comprehension failure? The complaint isn't about over-representation it's about people complaining about under-representation when the opposite is happening.

Direct democracy should be implemented in Ireland.

    The UN should be federalised.

Any country not adhering completely to the UNDHR should be blacklisted from international trade.

We should adopt Germany's age of consent laws.

It's perfectly acceptable for a man to hit a woman if she hits him.

Phantom 105.2 is the only good radio station in Dublin.

Modern day feminism has very little to do with equality.

All the major psychoactives (including meth, heroin and cocaine) should be legalised.

Premises that serve alcohol should be allowed open 24 hours a day if they aren't in predominantly residential areas.

A man could potentially do more physical damage to a woman if he hit her than vice versa.

Must live in the first world.

So people have to be living in a third world country to complain about something?
are either pathetic little whiners with a terrible persecution complex or have recently been unsuccessful applicants for acting jobs ?
Because being a pathetic little whiner and being unemployed produce the same attitude?

But in relation to chart music specifically it is a load of balls. Chart music in the 80s was generally of much higher quality. I'm watching Grace Jones on an old Top of the Pops right now - nothing like that in the charts today. Of course not all music is rubbish now, there's lots of brilliant stuff - but chart/pop music on the radio is obscenely bad, taken over by X Factor muck.

Ya most chart music is terrible :( auto-tuned ****.

If I hear a news story about someone being attacked by an animal after they have treated the animal badly I'll feel more sympathy for the animal that inevitably gets put down than I'll feel for the human.

The same goes for people that stupidly keep animals like lions, tigers and monkeys as pets and get attacked. While I wouldn't go so far as to say they deserve it I would say they should have known better and it's ridiculous to punish the animal for doing what comes naturally to them.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone that gets injured taking part in things like the Pamplona bull run. I actually would say these people deserve what they get.

Ill agree there, If a matador and a bull get in a ring together I want the one without the choice to get out alive. A matador choose to get in with a dangerous animal the bull didnt choose to put itself in that situation.
