Whats in your man bag?

A passport and a spare pair of underwear are among the top items that can be found in the modern male’s “man-bag”, new research suggests.
Other essentials that made the list included umbrellas (19 per cent), aftershave (21 per cent) and mobile phones (33 per cent).
Altogether the average value of items in a “he-holdall” comes to £104.8 (€123), just £4.28 (€5) less than the items in the average lady’s handbag, the poll suggested.
According to the research which was carried out on men in the UK, Northern Ireland man-bags contain the most expensive items (£147.27 [€172] on average) while lads’ luggage in Wales trail behind as the least expensive items (£63.42 [€74] on average).
The study, conducted by Opinion LLP for Direct Line Insurance, interviewed a random sample of 2,021 adults across the UK.
The results have been weighted to the profile of all adults in August 2011.
Stuart Curson, head of Direct Line Home Insurance, said: “Whilst the average man-bag may only cost just over £30, the pieces inside are often worth more than three times this amount.”
He said that adding these valuable items to a policy was simple, and he recommended that men look at and update their policies as soon as possible.

I find it incredibly difficult to take seriously any chap who carries a handbag. Because that's what it is. Call it what you like. It's a ****ing handbag and you're a ****ing blouse for owning one.

Man bags are very useful, saves trying to stuff everything in your pockets, umbrellas are particularly awkward

I actually have two manbags, so I can fit my phone, pen, and all my change.

    I call them "pockets."

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,648 ✭✭✭desertcircus

Kindle, headphones (when not wearing them), spare underwear and socks, books (because sometimes you find them cheaper than on the Kindle, dammit), razor, four cans of Karpackie (Leinster games in the RDS only). And a pink shirt for wearing the next day, so I look FABULOUS.

I jest. About the pink shirt, that is (although I do sometimes bring it). I manage to remain attracted to my girlfriend despite my ownership of a small black bag that goes over my shoulder; no idea how, though...

Good point...also puts a stop to people saying 'is that an umbrella in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?'

The only acceptable Man-bag is the type worn by Indiana Jones.

It shall hold nothing but archeological treasures that will later be returned to a museum (and maybe some spare bullets).

As long as you don't actually wear a big dollar sign necklace then we're good.

If I did have a handbag - in it would be:

    a fully loaded handgun
    a Swiss army knife
    duct tape
    a roll of strong twine
    fishing line and hooks
    a pair of shades

    and...

    a packet of Werther's Originals.

    I don't have a man-bag, I have a rucksack.

Carries my lunch, high viz (needed for work), first aid kit(trained in it), shoe polish(also work), mini deodorant, travel toothbrush, toothpaste, mini shaving gel, mini mouthwash, Gillette Fusion, pens & notebook, newspaper, rain cover and sometimes laptop.

My brolly can be put into it or held on by the strapping, but it being a proper man-brolly it's too big to fit inside.

Mine's not big enough to keep a whole man in so I just keep severed limbs of them.

Once the arm of a woman got in there by mistake. That rightly p*ssed me off so it did. She should have been in my woman bag.

Nothing, because I am a man.

And if I did have one I would have my man card in it. But I don't, because I am a man.

I carry a bag to work every day so f*ck y'all!

I carry my lunch in it, a shopping bag, my book and a few other bits and pieces. Carry my camera often as well but haven't being doing so for the last while.

    It's very convenient.

Why would at least two of the posters in this thread need to carry around spare underwear...?

Ha. That works two ways. It says 'man bag' is 'scrotum', which is 'clearly where you keep your testicles', and it also says that if you own a 'man bag', you might as well cut off your balls and keep them in it.

    Patrick Bateman?
In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
