Sins of a Solar Empire is now available on steam for 25% off.

Unfortunately if you already own Sins it will not be transferable. Also, the upcoming sequel/full expansion, Rebellion, is currently an Impulse-only Pre-order and those pre-orders will not work with Steam.

After selling Impulse to Gamestop (ugh) they realized they no longer had a conflict of interest and let loose. When asked why the game was non-transferable in-forum stardock reps vaguely referred to technical issues.

I'm looking for a Master of Orion 2 type game - Sins of a Solar Empire similar to this or are there better games out there?

No it is nothing like. MoO Sins is basically Starcraft in space. It plays like a traditional RTS it's not grand strategy game. Still quite a good game.

In fairness to SC, SC is much faster paced and on an action perspective far more exciting. Sins is more fun as an empire building game as the name implies. Although, PvP games tend to be played very quickly on average.
